Save time at home. Stop rebuilding your shopping lists. Enter items in the app or at grocerygadgets.com and arrange them how you want. Check your shelves and set the quantity of what you need to buy, 0 for items not needed. NEW: Don't search! Scan product barcode you need (with 3GS iPhone). Best iPhone App I Own
I have been meaning to write this review for awhile-- this is by far my favorite application for iTouch. As other reviewers say, it is a very feature dense application, which can make the screen a little cluttered, and the learning curve slightly (only slightly) higher than other grocery list apps. But, the pros leave these minor cons in the dust:
1. developer response is extraordinary. I have written multiple times with bug reports, feature requests, and I ALWAYS get a courteous thoughtful reply in less than 2 days. In every case, my issues have been resolved, sometimes by explanations, and often (this is the part that blows me away) by changes in the software itself.
2. the many features mean that you can customize this grocery app to do almost anything you want; once you have figured out what works for you, you can just disregard the features you don't use. For my part, I don't take pictures, I don't enter taxes, and I don't use the "auto sort" feature (good idea, but doesn't work well unless you shop from the same basic list every week). I DO use the application to keep an up to date inventory of my pantry, and my freezer, in addition to making shopping lists (you can save multiple lists, and organize each list differently-- ie, sort by name, by "department", by order purchased).
3. the web portal (free) means that you can share your lists with anybody in your family who has a computer, and/or an iphone. In my house, since we only have one touch, other family members log on to the web portal, add their items and print lists if they are doing the shopping. Items they add will automatically appear on my iTouch when I go shopping. The sync feature has always worked beautifully for me.
4. Import/Export feature: I create shopping lists in BigOven software, which generates automatic shopping lists based on recipe ingredients. Save those shopping lists and import them into grocery gadget. Sync with my iTouch and go shopping. Whole process takes less than fifteen minutes. There are now three import/export formats, including .csv, which means, you could import shopping lists from any recipe/menu generating software that can create a .csv file.
Some of the negative reviews are based on a buggy version of the software which has since been fixed. And some are based on a day when the servers went down and the web portal temporarily disappeared-- the only time it has happened since I started using the software (and I got an immediate response to my email query reassuring me that it was only a temporary outage). Don't let those reviews scare you away. Check out the MacWorld review. This app has streamlined my shopping experience to the point where it's almost fun.
Best APP ever
Absolutely love this APP! Has pre-loaded list of just about everything and anything. Is missing a few specific different kinds of foods. but for the most part this is about 95-98% a HOME RUN!
Foods can be separated in category form which is a big help.
I can't say enough. I love it!
Great App That Keeps Getting Better!
I compared many "shopping list" apps before deciding on this one and I couldn't be happier! More useful than I'd even expected - and unlike my scribbled paper list, I never leave home without it!!
