Description

Do you really need your workout log to teach you how to do a bench press? No, you just want to record your workout, quickly and easily.

Gym Buddy is the best-looking, most powerful and most versatile workout log on any platform!

Frankly, there are better places to get personal training advice than your phone, and trying to do so only detracts from what a great workout log should be. Other apps may include a bunch of stuff you don't need, but they don't give you the stuff you do.

Key features include:

- Allows you to edit your sets after you input them. Change the time, note, weight & reps anytime and anywhere they appear. You can move them from workout to workout, or even change the associated exercise.

- Has three countdown timers to monitor your rest periods. They beep and buzz independently at any duration and can even be set to start automatically when you enter a set.

- You can define an unlimited number of Plans for each workout where you can store your goals for that day. Each plan can contain a unique subset of the exercises in a workout and may also be sorted independently.

- Workouts can be sorted into different Groups of Workouts.

- You view your results in a concise, compact format that is definable by workout, time frame, and exercise. With the Calendar view you can view an entire month of workouts in one glance, seeing the date, name of the workout, and your workout volume -- then flip from month to month. Select a day in the calendar and you see all the sets you performed on that day.

- Allows you to email your history -- also by workout, exercise, and time -- for backup and input to a spreadsheet.

- With a wifi connection to a computer, you can backup and restore the database -- so you don't have to worry about the security of your data.

- Shows your previous workout results right on the input screen, so you know what your goal is -- no searching, no tabbing, its just there.

- Calculates your One Rep Max for each set and tracks your all-time best, which it celebrates by flipping the screen and yelling, "YES!"

- Draws a graph of your One Rep Max history for each exercise, breaking down each workout by set number (up to five sets) and also by your best set. Also graphs your Workouts by volume.

- Tracks and graphs your weight, body fat, BMI, and lean body mass, or anything else that can be expressed as a number including body measurements and supplement intake, and also includes an interval timer. No need to buy separate apps.

- Includes a detail screen for each workout and exercise showing an extensive summary of your performance.

- Compatible with Kilograms and allows for decimal weights.

- Allows for supersets, bodyweight, and assisted weight exercises. Cardio exercises can have up to four user-defined data points.

What's New in Version 3.2.1

- Supersets can now be created with bodyweight and assisted weight exercises.

- The exercise list for a workout now shows any exercises performed today in green.

- Fixed the emailing of Body Tracker data, which is now sent separately from sets data, and also optimized the memory usage so larger emails can be sent.

- You can now purge Body Tracker data.

- Provides a user option to turn off vibration.

i'll stick to paper and pen

I am a gym rat so this looked cool but (sadly) after trying it out: no way!

It comes pre-loaded with the basics, such as squat and pullups, but it takes a long time to enter your personal exercises (and mine would crash frequently while editing so I had to enter a couple exercises, close, and then enter some more, or I would lose everything). So I took 15 minutes to personalize my exercises eg. 3 different types of pullups, and then I tried to set up a routine which I had planned out for the next month.

1. add routine, 2. pick exercises and sort, 3. pick each exercise and then enter weight, reps, and sets. I do love geeky and fun things but by the time I got to step 3 I was just worn out. Paper and pen is just a lot quicker! After playing around with this for half an hour I'll just have to surrender and delete the app. Try it if you want, it's just a few bucks, but I can't recommend it to anyone.

PUSH IT!!

This is the perfect program. If you are looking for something to track your workout and allow you to e-mail it to yourself, Without those videos or anything else to get in the way, then look no further. Here it is.
I have looked at all the others and was very disappointed. I don't need videos to tell me how to workout. I know that already. I just wanted to track and save my workout information.

Gym Buddy is by far the best app i have gotten for my iPod touch to date. Between Nike+ and Gym Buddy, All of my fitness needs are taken care of.

I can add exercises by muscle group or even add my own unique exercise. I can leave notes on how to do it, or even reminders to keep strict form, whatever i want. It takes all of 10 -15 seconds to input data and even add an exercise. Easy, clear, bare bones, just like my Gym. I didn't come to talk and watch videos, i came to Work Out, and Gym Buddy came to Work Out too.

Keep up the great work, and i'll keep using my Gym Buddy.

Ideal for Experienced Gym Rats

The previous reviews have it right. This is the ideal product for experienced gymgoers who do not need instruction on excercises (diagrams, videos, etc).

The user interface for both creating and customizing workouts is the best I've seen in this category--including previous products on Palm and PocketPC.

As others have already pointed out, the product needs a way to quickly view the sets/weights for the last 3 times an exercise was done WHILE IN THE "HIT THE GYM SCREEN." The history page is fine, but too cumbersome this purpose. This should be a very fast fix for the mfr.

That being said, this product could evolve over the long term to include some of the features of the best PocketPC products without feature creep into the aforementioned diagrams and videos.

- First and foremost, it needs a way to record cardio workouts.
- Second, it needs a way to view progress in the form of charts and graphs.

Ideally, all of this would be done with a mated desktop PC version THAT IS COMPATIBLE WITH THE IR OUTPUT FROM POLAR HEART RATE MONITORS. Data from cardio workouts could be imported and everything viewed via graphs and charts.

Summary: A terrific product, especially for the price. The inability to view the info from the last three workouts from an exercise while in the gym mode makes it 4 stars out of 5. If they fix that and develop a syncable PC version with charts and Polar input like the Pocket PC ones, it's worth $25-50.
