Great fun. I love Sudoku and this game is better! Totaly worth the $2. Really like the game!
A great little thinking game
First, the Hidato game concept is a great new addition to the world of puzzles. Essentially a number maze, you try to figure out the only valid path from 1 to the highest number.
This iPhone app of the game is well-designed. There are 100 puzzles of increasing difficulty. It has two modes, one which gives you hints by highlighting the squares where the next number could go, and one which doesn't. There is a timer and a system of scoring your games -- you get add'l points for not making mistakes, not asking the game to check your work (which is a handy feature), and completing it quickly -- but I ignore the score and timer. I just enjoy the challenge of doing the puzzle. The scoring system does allow you to compete with friends who also have the game.
There are a few quirks in the UI which mostly affect you only if you care about the score. It's a little too easy to click on the space adjacent to where you're aiming, which lowers your score if it's the wrong number. Also, the game does not respond at all if you put your iPhone on a flat horizontal surface; you have to tilt the phone a bit. But these are minor quibbles.
Well worth the $2 for an interesting new puzzle concept -- and better than doing it in a puzzle book, which doesn't afford the ease of correcting errors. Highly recommended.
Great for Hidato Lovers
I love playing Hidato online. Imagine my surprise when I found this app. It's just like the daily online puzzles one would find on Shockwave or any other online gaming site. If you love the online version, play it in the papers, or have the books then this app version is for you.
I like that you can go back and redo old puzzles for a better score. I also like that you can save your game and return to it later, something the online version can't offer. Plus, you can challenge your friends with iPhones and iPods to beat your score over e-mails. This version is a great compliment to the online and print versions of Hidato.
