"Another actually useful app for the iPhone" - iPhones Talk
"Incredible app! Yet another reason why I like the iPhone." - @jenniappleseed
"Just downloaded Historic Earth! Looking at C19 maps of Philadelphia's Rittenhouse Square on my iPod. So cool." - @amndw2
"Historic Earth allows me to be in two or three places at once: 1820, 1942 and 2009! It's a fascinating app to travel with. I found myself in LA a few months ago sifting through time to discover the original topography of the area I was staying in. Living in New York City with this app is a lot of fun. You can see the original lots and farms that made up the early city. Historic Earth is in its early stages and already great. I'm excited to see what the updates will be to this promising App." - Artist Michael Beneville
Drawing on the world's largest online collection of geo-coded historic maps, Historic Earth allows you to virtually travel back through time in many locations. Geo-coding allows the maps to closely overlay a modern map, so that the same locations can be compared in various time periods. Historic Earth allows you to map the history of cities, times, buildings and landmarks. View historic maps showing property owners, see buildings constructed and replaced, and watch the landscape change over time.
Currently we have over 32,000 high-resolution plates covering several U.S. cities and states up-close (including most of the Midwest, NYC, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and parts of several states) as well as a set of large-scale antiquarian world maps, covering the continents of South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia as they were mapped in the old world. The collection will be continuously expanding to over 130,000 as more of the large Historic Map Works archive is made available through geo-coding.
You can check if we have maps for your area on our coverage map here:
www.historicmapworks.com/Earth/location.php
A network connection is required for using Historic Earth. Because maps are loaded from our servers, you will automatically have access to new maps as more regions and collections become available.
Some Features:
-Map My Location: Searches and displays historical maps of your current location.
-Featured Locations: Explore historical maps from a variety of changing highlighted locations.
-Search: Search for a location by address, city, or ZIP code to explore maps from that area.
-Geographic Search: Pan and Zoom to any location on the map and make a new search for maps at that location.
-Compass Support: For devices with a compass, the maps can rotate with your current orientation.

What's New in Version 1.1
- Map zoom level behavior much improved, maps will now start out filling the screen based on their size.
- The coverage map now shows the world map, as we have loaded a set of antiquarian continental maps. If you cannot see the new coverage in your coverage map, go into Settings and press "Clear Tile Cache".
- The coverage map remembers the last location you were looking at.
- Fixed a bug where map would not re-center after multiple searches while the locked mode is enabled.
- Due to server changes, the shuffle button has been removed, as all maps are now presented as individual plates.
- The activity indicator while tiles are loading is now visible even when the navigation bar is hidden.

Lame Duck App
C'mon! No updates since Dec '09!!!
This aint rocket science! there is a wealth of public domain maps for EVERY municipality in the USA yet they haven't added squat for months.
They just don't care and I suggest you don't either.
Spend your money elsewhere this is a waste and all the more disappointed based on potential.
Shame on the developers for giving up!!!!!!
False Claims
Says it includes Maine, it only includes the most southern tip of Maine, about 2% of the state, hardley a true statement that it covers Maine. The app is hard to figure out, and does not show buildings or any archived photos from what I saw, just old maps. I was really looking forward to this one, for price it is clearly a FALSE CLAIM.
