Customer Reviews
Useful but Intrusive.
This is a reasonably useful app for figuring out subway routes from Point A to Point B. HUGE DOWNSIDE that will probably make me uninstall it is the constant intrusion of ads. Also, I find it very suspicious (and useless to me, at least) that the app has downloaded all my of my contacts, including non-NYC addresses--as if I'm going to take the subway to Los Angeles? The app claims that this information is only used for determining routes within the HopStop app, but I don't believe this for a second. This is blatant, egregious data mining. Otherwise, it would not be an automatic listing. I recommend that you uninstall this app if you value privacy at all.
Wish I'd have tried this app sooner!
I am a skilled NY Subway navigator but recently needed to start using some buses here as well, and got very frustrated trying to find accurate stop information from the MTA's schedules. (for the m5, specifically).
Decided to search for an NYC bus app on the app store, and had heard friends recommend Hop Stop in the past so I tried it. Very impressed and happy to have found such a comprehensive app. (and I found the m5 stops closest to our home, which are Way closer than what a manager at MTA told us yesterday).
I'll be putting this app on my wife's phone as well. Thanks.
Needs work
HopStop is a very useful website. The iPhone app needs some work, though. The problems are as follows:
(1) Doesn't correctly select the borough in NYC when address is fetched from Address Book.
(2) Address Book not searchable
(3) 360-degree view not available in results, like it is on the website.
(4) NO photos of any kind are available in the results, unlike the website.
Because of these problems, I use the website unless I'm not near a computer.
