Description
iCED for iPhone and iPod touch presents a unique way to use a Chinese dictionary. After you've found the entry you were searching for, iCED will continue to search for compound or component entries to complement your search. Component entry dissection allows you to quickly understand the meaning of components in longer words or phrases. For example, if you look up 中华人民共和国, iCED will also look up 中华 and 人民共和国. You can then select the latter to break it up into 人民 and 共和国. When you get to single characters, iCED will look up compound entries starting with that character.

FEATURES:
• Multiple dictionaries: CC-CEDICT, CDICT5, Unihan. (ABC CE and EC Dictionaries available as optional add-ons)
• Integrated search across all dictionaries using English words, Chinese characters (using the Chinese hand recognition built into the iPhone OS), Hanyu Pinyin (with or without tone numbers) and radical index.
• Search for the occurrence of a Chinese character or word anywhere in the entry. Browse through the list of results with a thumb index, sorted by where in the entry the search term was found (position 1, position 2, ...)
• Supports both traditional and simplified characters with an easy-toggle button. Great for learners who constantly flip back and forth!
• Word lists. Save your searches in categorized word lists for later review.
• Text on the clipboard will initiate a search on startup.
• Recents tab keeps track of searches for quick review.
• Supports landscape mode, with portrait/landscape lock.

• ABC CE Comprehensive 2009-06 (201,138 entries)
• ABC EC Dictionary 2009-06 (18,630 entries)

Amazing
The last review on here, the one about taking a long time to load is crap. I downloaded this app because I am trying to translate Harry Potter during my Chinese class in which I don't learn, and there is no Internet. That is what is so great about it! You don't need Internet! This app makes translating extremely easy. For example, I was very surprised to find Fu di mo already translated to- Voldemort (from Harry Potter). And at a price of free, all the bonus features such as a custom word list make this app DEFINITLY worth while.
Best translation dictionary period!
This app I great, it took a while to load cuz it doesn't need Internet connection! But the wait was wortth it! I love the zoom character feature and it's all free! I haven't found a better translation dictionary of ANY language than this! I love it
Not Bad...But There's Much Better Out There
Honestly, it's been a few months since I used this app. It seemed like this app was always trying to pull the rug out from under me, changing features in an attempt to squeeze some money out of me. First, they decided to launch several other apps alongside of this one, making you run around trying to compare, compare, compare...instead of doing the straightforward thing and just offering paid add-ons inside one app.
The last straw was when I opened the app to search for a character by radical AND FOUND THAT THE RADICAL SEARCH OPTION WAS NO LONGER IN MY CURRENT VERSION OF THE APP! So, I looked around for a free replacement and found the app that changed my Chinese-studying world: Pleco. I gave iCED an extra star for leading me to look for Pleco!!! See yas...
