Needs more features
This is a great app for posting assignments if you don't mind typing on your iPad. You can also put grades into Scoresheet. However, there is no way to quickly toggle from one student's grade to the next - on a computer one would use the arrow keys, no such lick here. Also, there is no way to take attendance.
Got it working
I like being able to enter assignments and scores on the go, but I would really like to be able to take attendance without being bound to a computer. This app is just a convenient bonus...it could do more.
Long Review - using since ver1.0 - Ipad 1 vs 2 included
Edit 1/13/12 ** I am now about 4 months into using this App on an Ipad 2 (I had it since ver. 1 using an Ipad 1) and I have never been so up to date on my grades. I love the app, and how it has changed how I run certain parts of my class. feel free to read the whole review for a pros and cons list and hopefully helpful ideas for those having problems. **
***Helpful hints for getting it working***
* First of all, YOUR SCHOOL MUST BE USING PEARSON ONLINE GRADEBOOK! This is not a standalone app.
* People with log in issues need to get their IT dept to deal with things. I had a long talk with mine and it is clear that there is a learning curve on some nuances but Pearson - IT - and teacher all need to be setup right. IMO Giving the app low stars when it may very well be your IT dept is stupid. You can edit your review by clicking write review again. Can adjust stars as well. Step up and fix some of your inane reviews folks.
* IT dept must have the mobile addon installed locally on their server.
* Crashing issues - Uninstall and reinstall the App. I have done this with several touchy apps (not this one) and it can help.
* Logging in issues - on the login screen. Hit settings in upper right. Select server button. Select locate district server Then either enter the school zip code Or if you are at your school, select search for district server to use current gps location. Pick your building if multiple ones are listed. If its not there, SEE YOUR IT DEPT. it's probably a local setting in the program (IT issue), your log in (still IT), or your school doesn't have PowerSchool or it's mobile app addon installed (IT issue again).

I have used this App since version 1.0. I loved the potential but hated the actual use early on. I tried to be constructive with my criticisms and praise in my reviews (which have since gone away in version changes.).
I ran this app on my personal Ipad 1 up until 2 weeks ago. I used it sparingly since I still found it too slow to use effectively (Although there was an improvement with the last update). Since my school just purchased an Ipad2 for my classroom and my other responsibilities, I can now say that the Ipad2 runs this app WAY better than the Ipad1. Running on the 2, I can use this in class to enter grades on the fly, check grade totals, missing assignments and show individual students their own score privately. The difference is stunning and what I hoped it would be.
The Good:
-Mobile grading, obviously
-Student Pictures
-Tutorials
- show single student grades onscreen for privacy
-able to edit assignments
-Final grade calculation
-easy access to student info, medical, contact and notes
-Email parents directly from app
The Bad:
-Need Ipad2 to really make this app useable IMO
-Save and revert button are too close to each other for entering grades
-Login screen… keyboard hides the login button and the return key does not log you in
-can’t copy an assignment
-Missing student pictures (school issue) – let us add a pic from camera roll
-long names are cut off. Need more control over how this shows up
Requests:
-Let us use a pic from the ipad camera roll or even better snap a pic right from the ipad2 camera
- viewable name – My school adds first, middle, last and hyphenated names for students… let me enter a name for a student that will show instead of the default database names. Most kids shorten their names, and drop hyphenated versions. I see 440 kids every 6 days, what they put on their paper doesn’t always match my gradebook, and since I can’t see their whole name in the app sometimes, I really have to search.
-search feature that lets me enter a student name and the app will pull up the individual student or their class. Again, 440 kids over 2 grades, and I get paperwork with a student’s name on it from the office. I would like to be able to punch in the name and be able to know their info without searching through my 17 classes one at a time.
-Seating chart – graph paper with the ability to drag and drop in small pics with names. Tappable to say if they were missing from class that day. And store as an in class attendance (not sent back to the server). Show the number of classes missed with student info. Students miss class for tons of reasons when they are not absent from school. Tracking this would be nice.
-Not sure if it would be ok to do or not, but like the medical and notations portion by the childs name, I would love to have an IEP synopsis (students state mandated Individual Educational Plan) if the student has one.
