What's New In Version 2.1
Major Upgrade:
This version of iJisho introduces the "Read" section, where daily news and other articles can be read in both English and Japanese.
The articles are integrated into the dictionary so that words can be looked up whilst reading. Underlined words are automatically cut and paste into the dictionary when clicked.
Customer Reviews
Not good for itouch
They don't tell you that you need a internet connection to get any definitions. None of it is in Romaji, so if you cannot read any of the Japanese alphabets it is almost pointless.
I want money bak
this needs Internet all the time and didn't mention on info which is scam! also if u don't know kangi and hiragana and katakana, u can even read dictionary.
Agree with most of the above . . . .
. . . But it's still useful if, for nothing else, verifying your Japanese is correct. Adding at least the hiragana pronunciation however would be helpful, and including archaic forms would be useful to me since most of the Japanese I've done lately is related to sword research, and I have a few books published around the 18th century (Edo Japan) that I would like to be able to read, as well as modern texts. Certainly cross translation is a necessary part of that, and it would be a most excellent upgrade to the app to put that in, and not difficult with a network connection using Bablefish if you have to. Right now I muddle through with a Kanji dictionary as I try to widen my Kanji and vocabulary, but grammar, that is where something like this is handier. Our Sensei taught us formal Japanese inferior mode, and though its very correct, it does not help much for day to day conversation, or reading.
All in all I call it a good start and look forward to updated versions with more functionality.
