Description
Fun game to learn and speed up your hiragana and katakana reading.
Kana is a great game for:
- Manga readers
- Japanese Students
= Tourists heading to Japan
- Children and family members of mixed Japanese families.
Includes 12 levels to take you through from the basic vowels, to the more advanced katakana and hiragana.
The game learns about your knowledge as you play. It won't repeat kana you've shown you know, and will focus on kana you have difficulty with.
A chart is shown which shows you which kana you have learnt, and which you are having problems with. This helps you fine tune your study the more you play.
Two play modes:
- Classic, start at level 1, and proceed through the levels as you learn each one. This is good for people new to Hiragana and Katakana, and are still learning.
- Practise all levels at once. This is good for people who are mostly familiar with hiragana and/or katakana, and want to practise with all kana without going through the levels.
The game auto saves when you exit.
What's New in Version 1.2
Added a second play mode. You can now play:
- Classic, start at level 1, and proceed through the levels as you learn each one. This is good for people new to Hiragana and Katakana, and are still learning.
- Practise all levels at once. This is good for people who are mostly familiar with hiragana and/or katakana, and want to practise with all kana without going through the levels.

U ten-ten DOES exist in Japanese !!
I've seen two reviews here which say "U ten-ten is odd / wrong." Sorry -- U ten-ten is very common these days in katakana usage in Japan, for v sounds. Some examples: ヴァ = va (formerly written as バ ba) ヴィ = vi (formerly written as ビ bi) ヴェ = ve (formerly written as ベ be) ヴォ = vo (formerly written as ボ bo) As well, it is sometimes fashionable or "cute" to write words normally written in Katakana, e.g. foreign loan words, in Hiragana, so you may see the U ten-ten in Hiragana as well. Don't be too shocked... :-) Please check your facts before trashing a software app for a "mistake" which is not really a mistake at all.
Great app
Really helps with my studies. Needs a feature to choose levels and characters you have trouble with. Worth the money.
Love it
Simple, fun and smart indeed. And very modern (not "scrolls of the samurai," like so many others are styled) Japanese looking, which I really like. Wish they had other background options for fun, but since the goal is to learn and move on, possibly not important. Yes, wish I could focus on certain sets, to save time, but what the heck. Great, just-right app, 5 stars.
