This is the "REAL" app, not the fake on

Another application is trying to capitalize on ldsscripturesapp.com by naming their application LDS Scriptures App --but accept no substitute, THIS is the app that has the Gospel Principles 2010 manual, THIS is the app that allows you to share content with others and to add their shared content to your iPod/iPhone don't get fooled by the other application, THIS is the one that you want to purchase. --I personally don't like paying for things that should be free---but the only other choice that I was looking at was purchasing iSilo, and I figured, for $5 more, this app has everything I need AND I can upload my OWN content. If you are LDS, this is the only app you need, don't settle for anything less, it's worth the investment, you spent more buying your quad, this has EVERYTHING.

It does not get much better than this ...

When you sit down to read your scriptures, or your lesson, what do you want to do:

1. Be able to find what you need to read easy and fast.
2. Highlight what you read. Maybe highlight in different colors.
3. Create notes or comments by what you have read.
4. Add references to what you have read to other scriptures or church material.
5. Add different bookmarks for different areas you might be studying.

So to accomplish this you would need a good dozen books, highlighters, paper, pens, pencils, sticky notes, bookmarks and a good sized table or strong arms to carry it all.

This application gives you all of this in an easy to use interface that is customizable and fast, all in the palm of your hand!

There are additional features like auto scroll, tags, searching capabilities, history and more that make this application a delight to use.

All the 2009 LDS content is there ... you really would not need anymore.

What are you waiting for! It does not get much better than this ...

Overrated

This app has more functionality than the free LDS scripture app but I find it way overpriced. As is, this app is worth about $4.99 to me. My suggestion to potential buyers is to buy the app if you want more material than the free app (i.e. conference talks, reference manuals, hymns, etc.) as this app has a lot more material than the free scripture app. However, I don't suggest you buy this app if you are looking for extra bookmarking and marking features (these are difficult to use and difficult to backup). I bought this app in hopes of doing a lot of marking, bookmarking, and indexing and was sorely disapointed. If you just want to read the scriptures, then the free app provides this with a more intuitive user interface. There are a lot of strong reviews for this app and I was frankly disapointed after paying $15.00 for this app.

Here are some limitations and suggestions for future versions of the app:

- It would be very nice if there was a PC/MAC app that went along with this app and that would allow synchronization. This way, you could add notes, bookmarks, etc. more easily on the PC and then view/use these notes on the iPhone at church.
- It is much more difficult to browse through the topical guide on this app than it is on the free app. In this app you select a letter and then have to scroll through the list of topics of the same letter. For example, if you want to find the topical guide entry for "Truth" you need to scroll down to the 'T' entry, and then scroll several dozen pages in the list of all T entries until you get to "truth". This is much more difficult than typing in "Tr" on the free app to get to the "Truth" entry. In the free app, you use the keyboard and can quickly get to the topical guide entry of interest.
- I don't like how the "stack" works when reading scriptures from your bookmarks. If you select a scripture from a bookmark, you cannot easily go back to the bookmark page you were previously at.
- It would be nice if you could tell if a verse has been bookmarked (i.e. a reverse bookmark). When you are reading a verse, you can then see if and when the verse has been bookmarked (this is like creating your own footnote). Unfortunately, you cannot tell whether a verse has been bookmarked unless you browse through all of the bookmarks
- Backups and restore are a real pain. If you invest a lot of time in creating notes, bookmarks, etc., it is not easy to backup and restore your lost data base (backup involves the email of a file and requires you to reenter all of your email settings so you can send an email from the application).
- There seem to be two "modes" when reading the scriptures. If you access a scripture from the home page, you have a lot of verse marking options like highlighting and marking. However, if you access a verse from a bookmark, you don't have these highlighting features. I find it awkward working with two different user interfaces for the same scripture.

In short, this app has a lot of new material but the fancy features for editing, marking, etc. are just not very good. Hopefully some of these issues will be addressed in future versions.
