Lingon

By Peter Borg Apps AB

Open Mac App Store to buy and download apps.

Description

With Lingon you can schedule things to happen automatically on your Mac.

Uses
• Do you ever want to start an app at a given time?
• Do you ever want to run a script e.g. every hour?
• Do you ever want make sure that an app automatically restarts if it crashes?
• Do you ever want to monitor a folder and do something if is modified?
Lingon can do all this for you and much, much more

Background
All Macs include something called launchd in the system which can schedule things. But it can be quite complicated to configure it as it requires complicated text files formatted exactly to some rules. Lingon takes care of all this for you and presents a simple interface where you can fill in what you want to do and then it is taken care of in the background.

Powerful
In Lingon you can see all configuration files that exists in the system. And if you need to make a configuration that is not included in the interface you can switch to a text mode and with some help include all configuration possibilities.

What's New in Version 2.2.1

- Added key for multiple dates in Expert Mode
- Fixed possible startup issue with a malformed launchd
- Removed unused option to suppress warning for the system-launchds

Customer Reviews

Useless & Won't Be Updated

I was trying to setup certain events to automatically happen on my mac and came accross this application. I thought I would give it a try - $5.00 didn't seem much and I thought I'd support independent developers.

Lingon, however, is extremely basic: I could never get it to really work for anything but the simplest of tasks. Also even for these simple tasks - in my opinion - using Lingon was nearly as complicated as setting up the repeating task manually.

Even given these shortcomings I didn't give up on app nor give it a poor review, since I thought the developer would support existing customers and roll out updates. Now I notice that the new version of Lingon - Lingon 3 - is a completely separate application for which the developer charges separately! Admittedly it's only $3, but I feel nickle-and-dimed by this behavior.

I will not be purchasing additional products from this developer.

Needs More Functions

This is useful for creating the basic launchd .plist but it needs functions added to run launchctl commands. Having the user log out or restart the system is not necessary.

Doesn't work on Lion

Hangs for me under Lion.

Aside from that, it's basically a fancy text editor. I was hoping to use it to start and stop services (MySQL and Mongo). No such luck, back to the command line.
