You don't know what's nearby.
Let Locly put you in your place.
Find nearby attractions, cafes and shops. Look at local photos from Flickr, and pull up Twitter or Wikipedia entries that are close to where you are now.
Locly is a great hybrid app for iPhone, finding your current location quickly, and opening up the latest information on nearby items of interest in Safari.
Will work in most countries.
UPDATE : You can also save your own terms for easy one-touch local searching (e.g. Golf Club, etc.).

1. Faster start up time
2. Locly updates its position as you move
3. Locly only loads Safari for third party websites

Useful in some cases
It's good for loking up taxis and gas stations. Flickr and twitter lookups are so nosiy they are useless, but I don't really need it either. outside.in was surprisingly useful - I learned that local trail will be closed for a month. I would have never known otherwise. So this has good promise. Keep iterating.
There can't be 32 *THOUSAND* Flickr images within 1 meter of me
Even when my 'distance filter' is set to 1 meter... it shows there are 32 *THOUSAND* Flickr images near me. (I highly doubt there are that many pictures within my small office cubical.) Bugs.
Works Great!
Uh... You know what? It works pretty darn good. Quit your whining.
