Description

MDN is MacDailyNews in your pocket! Now, even on the go, you won't miss a story.

Just like MacDailyNews, the MDN app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch features daily news about Apple, Mac OS X, the Macintosh platform, iPad, iPhone, iPod, and more. It's where the Mac community goes to discuss these daily Apple-related news items in their own words with real-time Reader Feedback.

The MDN app offers Push Notifications. When enabled, the MDN app will notify users when each new article is posted. To control the various aspects of notifications (Sounds, Alerts, Badges), on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, tap Settings > Notifications > MDN.

If you are asked for permission to use your device's location services, that is for Quattro Wireless (Apple Inc.) to deliver more relevant ads to you. If you decline, your ads will likely be less useful to you; you might get ads for snow shovels in Singapore or ads for a Seattle pizza place in New York. The amount of ads remains exactly the same in this latest version of the app and is unaffected by your decision to allow localization info or not.

Features include:
•- Quick, up-to-the minute Apple-related news headlines
•- Visited headlines change color; so you know what you've read at a glance
- Push notifications
•- Easy-to-read layouts for both portrait and landscape modes
- Full article display with dynamic Reader Feedback
- One-button tap for instant, dedicated feedback
- Easy login screen for registered users
- AAPL stock ticker with NASDAQ index

Didn't fix what you said you would

Update said it would fix blank iAds... It didn't. Good otherwise, I guess, except for the badge issue

Crash crash crash

This app crashes more than Amtrak. I like the Mac news but damn guys get it together.

Still full of bugs

I'm not reviewing MDN here... I'm ONLY reviewing this app, and specifically on the iPad.

The UI is basically okay. It has the same, logical layout of Apple's iPad mail app, but it's the little details, stupid quirks, lame dependance on the MDN website and more bugs than Windows Vista (ok, not THAT many, but it sure isn't Apple quality!

First thing is that no matter what orientation the iPad is in, or was in before the last launch of the MDN reader, it ALWAYS launches in portrait mode, then after a pause, flips...

Then almost EVERY time the app is launched, the list of articles is blank... Close the app and return and usually, the list populates... I can easily imagine this crappy app being a nightmare on iOS 4...

Next, the spinny that indicates the page is loading often is just spinning there, constantly, no matter what!

Then, if you are stupid enough to dive in and make a comment with the rest of the dogs, you get some stupid piece of a webpage, not a proper form... That's just lame.

My number one complaint however is that clicking on
The link to the referenced article opens it in a window... Yes, a frickin window! ...that has the entire target page in it, with now usually impossibly small, unreadable text... If you want to read the source article (and you should, since most of the time, the MDN commentator puts his own spin on their take), you have to tap the link and hold, select copy, go to Safari, paste and read there... Absolutely lame!

It has one redeeming value... It's priced about right for what you get out of it... ZERO
