Customer Reviews
Very disappointing
I love Monocle's quality content, and when they added live 24-hour radio to the mix, I leapt at the chance to buy the app.
The content is great. The app itself leaves a lot to be desired. I've tried it on my very fast wi-fi connection (I'm in Singapore, and have blazing fast service) as well as via 3G. It just doesn't work.
Both the timeshift and live broadcast audio streams are very problematic, cutting out at least every five minutes… and at the end of each program (usually on the hour) the app appears to disconnect the audio stream, meaning that I need to jump up every five minutes to punch the glass of my iPhone to restart it. The news bulletins are four minutes long. I always miss the start (because the app resets each hour), and seldom get through the full four minutes, before it cuts out.
I have no problem playing other streaming radio via iOS devices, both on the web, and from other apps (such as NPR), and these services never have these glitches.
This poor performance is doing the Monocle brand no favours. The editorial team's charming faux luddite posturing may be amusing to listen to, but it's wearing thin, and the self-indulgence stops being funny when they appear to be victims of their own technological entanglement.
Excellent Content but crashes too often
My title say it all, but to me. The content is actually 6 stars, the crashes takes it down to 2 stars, so that averages to 4 stars.
Monocle, please fix crashes and technical issues as soon as possible. Nothing should distract users from your excellent content.
Fantastic content, not so stable app
I love the content and listen to it daily during my commute or during quiet time at home. The app could be better with improved stability. When will Monocle have its magazine in a digital form, too?
