See the city that could have been. Museum of the Phantom City: Other Futures lets you view visionary designs for the City of New York created by architects and artists over the last century. Walk through the metropolis and see Buckminster Fuller’s Dome over midtown Manhattan, Antonio Gaudi’s unbuilt cathedral, and Archigram’s pop-futurist Walking City, while standing on the projects’ intended sites.
To use, follow a map tagged with the sites of visionary proposals. When you are within range of a site, the tag will change color, giving you access to images and words about designers’ visions for that site. Compare reality to what might have been, and submit your opinion through the app’s “Rate this Future” function. Or just wander through the city as it’s been dreamed and consider what forms of utopia might be possible just around the corner.

Must have app for New Yorkers who think creatively about how the city could have been, and could still be one day.
great idea
This is a great idea - to see the possible futures imagined now that we live in that actual future. The app is a little slow, and the fades in and out while beautiful at first grow quickly old - this should be fixed. That said, for a free app the developers should be commended and strongly encouraged. I'm forever disappointed by people who give one star ratings to apps because they don't have the patience to really consider them in total. People who flipantly rate things in this manner probably never make or contribute anything.

I like that it's weird and slow and confusing.
And I love that it only works in New York.
These qualities will drive most users crazy. But that makes it all the more endearing to me.
Most iPhone users will value speed and efficiency. But some of us still appreciate the cryptic and the bizarre.
