Good App, esp for price
A month ago I was reading up on Nintendo DS's "My Weight Loss Coach," but at $40, I didn't want to get it. This app is only $10! If you are even thinking about it, get it.
It's fun and cute, and has good suggestions. I use it in conjunction with a more " serious" nutrition and exercise tracker. However, if you are new(er) to exercising or eating clean, this is what you need to get started, especially if you just need to get up and start moving. Even as someone who has gone to the gym for years and works out pretty regularly, I love this app just for the Fun value! And watching the little "stick" figure hike to the next milestone.
The problem comes with the pedometer function. I have yet to find a pedometer or GPS tracker that works on the IPhone. Just use a regular pedometer. Even if this app's pedometer function is working for you, it stops if you do something else such as answer the phone or listen to music. I regularly go on 10k's-I will be listening to my music!
Other than that issue, this app is pretty great. The food choices could definitely be expanded, but like I said, I use a different app for precision. This one is just outright fun (and a fraction of the cost of the DS version)!
If you are a serious gym goer or want to track nutrition info, you may want to check out a different app, or plan on using this with another app like I do. If you need any motivation, get this app.
For more info and reviews, Google "My Weight Loss Coach," and read what people said about the DS version. As far as I can tell, there is no difference between that and the IPhone app (except you don't get a pedometer with this app).
Glad I bought this - lots of fun!
Nice but one major flaw - does not allow playing of music or audiobooks!
I love the overall idea of this app but there is one HUGE problem for me. When you start the app it disables iPod. I started out yesterday on my first three mile walk using the pedometer to keep track of the walk. Before stepping out the door I started my audiobook then started the application. As MWLC started the audiobook faded to silent. The pedometer started ready to measure my walk - in SILENCE. Why on earth would I want to have an iPhone strapped to my waist, full of music and audiobooks on a three mile walk in SILENCE. If you fix this one, silly, flaw this will be a wonderful application. PLEASE do not lock out iPod functionality, it's happy to play in the background, please let it!
Very well down personal coach
Aloha! I was reluctant to purchase this at the introductory $9.99 price - which seemed rather expensive. However, I just took it out for it's first walk - and I am already totally in love with this app. If you are looking for personal motivation - a personal coach to give you inspiration, goals, and rewards - this is the perfect app. The interface is VERY WELL thought out and very cute in the approach. Your coach is a simple stick figure - with loads of personality and plenty of moves. The screens are very well done and have a consistent flow. The messages and reinforcements are well thought out and presented in an engaging (and somewhat NLP structured) format. I did my first walk with the app today - a walk that I do daily that is measured to 1.1 miles - and the device pedometer accurately stated, at the end, 1.1 miles, which I was rather astonished at (considering the many GPS apps I have that do this poorly). Anyway, so far I love this app (havn't tried all the screens yet) - well worth the $9.99 as far as I'm concerned. If you are looking for motivation and someone to encourage you to move more, this is the perfect solution!
