This application has been updated to support the iPhone 4's retina display and gyroscope.
INSTRUCTIONS
When you load the app, holding it flat, all lines of the New York subway are displayed in colorful arrows. By tilting the phone upwards, you will see the nearest stations: what direction they are in relation to your location, their distance and what routes they are on. If you continue to tilt the phone upwards, you will see stations further away, as stacked icons.

Quite Awesome!
Just start the app and aim the phone (camera) in the direction you're looking. It will show you the view and the nearest subway entrance and distance. Works well and it's quick and simple. Nice application whether you're familiar with the city and it's subways or not.
Stupendous Idea
This app is a little out of date as far as train lines go, but the stations are all there. Since I know the current train lines the small inconvenience is hardly noticeable. Might be a problem for tourists though.
That said, I hope this is a forerunner of apps to come. It's totally amazing and should be handy in unfamiliar neighborhoods.
A great idea.
Thanks
