The best handwriting notebook app... period.
Updated for version 5.0. It's no secret that I love this app, seeing that my review has been the top Most Helpful review since I wrote it for version 4.0. A few months ago, due to nerve damage in my right arm, I became unable to write and had to put Noteshelf away for a while. Seeing that this update supported text input was better than Christmas for me! Now I have my old friend back.
I'm updating my review in Noteshelf! I love you guys! Please add more stuff to the store so I can give you more money... I really don't care what it is. :)
Here's my original review for version 4.0: First, I'll say the update seems stable, and the landscape mode is very well implemented, so great job!
A good notetaking app is critical for me, and I have probably spent $50 or more trying different apps, weighing pros and cons, and looking for that perfect combination of features and stability. Although I liked Noteshelf from the start, there were a few specifics that were missing at the time:
1. I needed to be able to use different paper types within a single notebook. A few other apps offered this feature at the time.
2. I needed to be able to organize a lot of notebooks, and be able to find a specific notebook easily. At the time, the notebook covers in Noteshelf were determined by the chosen paper type, which meant most of my notebooks looked too similar to find quickly by scanning the shelves.
3. The holy grail for me was the ability to import custom papers. Only one app offered that until recently.
In my hunt for the most perfect app, I almost let Noteshelf go.
But then, the 4.0 update came out and wow, I was in shock, because suddenly one app covered everything I needed. Added to image support, a well designed zoom feature (particularly the adjustable line height), and the best wrist protection of any app out there, Noteshelf immediately became the app to beat.
As if that weren't enough, 4.0 introduced another great feature that no other app had: the ability to copy and paste handwritten text and drawings. I didn't even know I needed that, but the option has been amazingly useful.
Here's a real world example of the power of this app, and then I'll leave you to press on that buy button:
I am a composer of experimental music and the staff paper I use is non-standard. Like a few of the other apps, Noteshelf offers music paper, which is a good start, but I would still have to prep every line of the staff paper before I could begin notation.
With the release of 4.0, I created a new notebook with music paper. I prepped ONE staff line. I then used the copy and paste function to copy my changes to that staff onto the rest of the staves on the page. I saved that page as an image and then reimported it as a custom paper. I never have to prep another page in this app again! No other notetaking app can do that.
This is now the one app I have open all day, every day, and I've deleted all of the other notetaking apps. It's that good.
So thanks a million to the developers of this app. Now hit the buy button.
Best writing app for iPad
I have a few writing apps on the iPad. This is the best. The wrist protection is genius i couldn't think of a better way to do it than note shelf has done, iv tried the wrist protection on all the other apps but none comes close to this one. This one really works. I wrote a whole page trying to catch it out, but it worked flawlessly. This is a must for iPad users. I do use a iPad pen stylis with this app not my finger
UPDATE. While I still give this 5 stars I'm shocked they moved the wrist guard feature to a menu. It was the most used feature to me as its far superior than any other app. And I liked it with easy access. I hope it's not removed in a future update or I will drop this app
Misleading description
In the description it said, "top 10 must-have apps for the new iPad". But in fact, it doesn't support retina interface. How come it is a top 10 must-have app for the new iPad?
It has been almost one month since the new iPad release, this app is still not updated...
