Banner Ads
Ok, so today I get another email from the Desperate Times to sign up for their smartphone subscription for $5 for 12 weeks thereafter normal rate of $15 a month applies.
So I take the bait and pay the $5 bucks and sign up.
Now I understand and accept that if I want to read something for free from the NYT or other newspapers via a smartphone I will be subjected to banner ads. I have no problem with that.
My problem is that after paying the trial subscription, logging in, and now reading the NYT as a paid smartphone user, I was shocked to continue to see cheap banner ads keep popping up on articles no matter what section I was reading. They even appeared in the Obit section. This is just plain pathetic.
I am not really a NYT avid fan but I do think they are still a pretty decent national paper but they keep making mistakes after mistakes.
I seriously doubt I will continue to subscribe after the trial ends.
Stop the banner ads
The banner ads will not go away and make it impossible to view the page. Really hard to believe the Times cannot come up with a better looking app.
Amazing: it gets worse
This company should get an award for not only the worst app but also the worst upgraded app. I wouldn't have thought it possible, but the app is even more clunky than before. And it is absurd we have to suffer through ads despite paying for the service.
