Good Start
The Good:
Detailed map of the country available off line. This would be very helpful when navigating off line. Get rid of the road atlas (if you haven't already. I use Tom Tom on my iphone, but using this on the ipad gives a great perspective rather than just directions. Hey hon, what's this body of water we're crossing ? The Atlantic Ocean ? OMG
The ok I guess:
Cost for the basic app + 3 tokens is 1.99. (token = area download). For full flexibility you would pay $8.99. "Full flexibility"
gets you guides to the area, restaurants etc. This is the revenue generator, and the gerbils have to be fed.
The bad:
The guides have very little information. For example, the Dare County, NC guide has 9 restaurants. Dare Co. (Nags Head, Kitty Hawk, etc. is a major beach tourist area. There are a lot more than 9 there, cf Yelp. However, a church you're looking for may be in there.
Summary: Well worth the $1.99 for the offline map of the US, effectively a great road atlas at a detailed level. Not worth it for the guide information, yet. Perhaps in the future. Without user reviews some guide areas may not be useful, eg restaurants. Some guide areas are/will be. Hmmm, that Eiffel Tower is around here somewhere.
Upgrading to OffMaps 2
Read the reviews to OffMaps 2 before you switch over. There's a report that once you do that, you lose the ability to download free maps with OffMaps 1.
Now, if you value the service and would like to support the effort, by all means, upgrade to OffMaps 2, then get the flat rate option.
Desperately needs more countries supported!
I live in the U.A.E. and have downloaded the 2 main cities maps (Abu Dhabi & Dubai). However, I travel to Lebanon often and that's nowhere to be found on on this app.
Beirut is a huge city and could easily get lost there, especially since the Internet there is very poor if not slow (no 3G).
