Why is this so popular?
Opera doesn't even have the basic features that safari has. You can only browse mobile websites... Isn't the point of having an iPad to avoid the annoying crappy mobile websites?
Friends don't let friends use Opera Mini.
In theory, Opera Mini is a great idea as an alternative to the built-in Safari. However, as a professional website designer, I always write code using W3C Standards. This ensures the websites you create are backwards, forwards, and cross-platform compatible.
Yet for some reason, Opera Mini has astronomically failed in rendering these validated webpages correctly. Text alignment is off, background images don't load correctly, JavaScript functionality is quirky and much slower than Safari, CSS3 support is abysmal at best... I could go on.
My point is, if you want a great web experience - even if you don't care one way or another - use the built-in Safari browser.
The most feature-packed desktop browser updated for iPad
This update was greatly needed. I don't know about the first two iPads but the UI for Opera on the new iPad was very small and it was difficult to even try to access the navigation toolbar. So I stopped trying to use it just a few days ago. It was nice to see that they also added other features to Opera mini instead of just updating it for the retina display. In my opinion, this is the best browser that you can get for iOS from the AppStore. The other browsers all replicate the same functionality in the same hideous package, but this browser has that Opera feel to it along with the beauty, for free!!!
