Description
PanoLab is the first application to enable photographers to capture and assemble multi-frame panoramas and collages directly on the iPhone. PanoLab makes it simple to align photos that you pull from your photo library or capture on the fly. Once you've finished building your panorama, you may save it back to your photo library for viewing, emailing, and sharing online. PanoLab's features include:
-- a multi-touch, OpenGL-accelerated interface for exploring and editing your panorama
-- hemispherical panoramas -- up to 180° field of view vertically and horitzontally!
-- capture images on the fly using the iPhone camera, or use existing images in your library
-- linear projection -- output images contain no distortion
-- up to 1024x768 output images
Unlike collage applications, PanoLab applies perspective correction and linear projection to make many photos from one viewpoint align into a cohesive wide-angle view.
Unlike other panorama applications available for iPhone, PanoLab joins photos both vertically and horizontally, and can combine as few as 2 or as many as 30 images.

Customer Reviews
Does NOT create Panoramic images...
So this software doesn't even do what it’s supposed to do. It creates a 1024x768 image of all your images you've lined up. I don't quite get it since the software lets you place images in this virtual panoramic world where you can look around and place images on the inside of this large domed wall, but when you save the image it crops it to a small section. I don't think the author knows what panoramic means.
I did give it two stars because of the UI, placing images on the large virtual wall is easy and fun, very organic feeling. I think you could use this to make a quick collage of images, but not a panoramic image.
Missing functionality...
What's the point of a panoramic camera if you can't see them with a viewer? Once you conform a panorama, it is saved as a regular picture. Isn't it better to see the picture interactively with a panoramic viewer? Fix that and you've got a very promising app.
Great concept, sometimes frustrating
Pro:
- You can get some very fun results
- Relatively simple to learn
Con:
- No undo (-1 star for any photo app)
- No full-screen preview of image before save
- Needs a way to control the sensitivity of positioning/rotating
- No way to way to disable on-screen help text
- Needs the ability to add text to image, maybe thought/chat bubbles
Summary:
I like having this in my toolbox of photo apps, but obvious enhancements are needed before it's 4-star app to me. I'd also love the option to save an image intended for a panoramic viewer as an alternative to a vanilla landscape or portrait photo.
