UPDATE | Papers for iPad now allows you to highlight and create notes on your PDFs!! Simply select the text by dragging your finger over the text (it works with multi-columns too!) and tap highlight, tap it again to change the color or copy the text. REQUIREMENTS | We recommend at least 100Mb of free space for storage of PDFs and article metadata. Use of built-in search engines and web browser functionality requires an active internet connection. Some search engines may require an institutional subscription. Syncing requires a wireless network connection and Papers for Mac (separate purchase).
LIMITATIONS | Annotations are not yet contained in emailed or exported PDFs, nor synchronized to the Mac version of Papers. We are working on adding this ability in a next update of the program.

Buyer beware: wireless sync is a mess
The sole reason I bought Papers was to synchronize PDFs on my MacBook with my iPad. After three weeks of headaches, it's clear that this is not a straightforward or easy process to troubleshoot. First off, a bad sync left me with 80% of my desktop Papers database deleted. After spending several hours rebuilding it, I was unable to sync at all, under any circumstances. To my dismay, reading the troubleshooting information points to a support article that points to a (currently) 8-page forum thread of complaints about this issue, with suggestions ranging from running an ad-hoc network (because who needs web or email access?) to turning off firewalls (not a good idea under any circumstances).
Look, I don't blame Mekentosj for having trouble figuring out a way around the iTunes data-transfer lockdown problem. But I do blame them for selling wireless sync as a key feature (it's prominently there in the product description) without any mention of these issues or any real troubleshooting/refund/support process. For a free or even $1 app, that might be OK. But at $15, this is the most expensive app I've bought to date, and it's currently completely useless.
Not working
Cannot get papers for iPad to work via ezproxy. Looking at discussion threads on their useless help site it appears to be a trend item. The site often blames problems on the iPad or the user without providing solutions. I don't normally write reviews but this is useless for 14 dollars. I'm sure it would be great if it worked
Newer versions work very well
I just wanted to comment that this program now works very well. If you read old reviews you will see lots of problems. Its true it used to be very poor with limited features, poor PDF rendering, and it would crash frequently. But recent versions have really polished this up and it now works very well. So kudos to the developers.
Since there were no recent reviews I thought I should share. This program is now very much worth the purchase price. It is particularly great on the iPad.
