very cool match-3, neat mechanic, best looking iPhone game I've played
This game is a little deceptive at first, because it seems like a very pretty but standard match-3 game. Get past the first level and suddenly the game play really opens up. When you make matches, the board actually moves in that direction so you can move around the level to look for the pieces that you need to collect. Then as you make matches your vine fills up and when it's full you can jump anywhere in the level to warp straight there. How cool is that?
There's a bunch of power-ups like tornadoes, lightning bolts, hurricanes and stuff hidden under the sand, so you actually find them as you make matches instead of just charging them up like in other games. It really rewards you for searching around the level.
And did I mention that this is the most gorgeous game on the iPhone? I'm amazed that they were able to make such pretty graphics on such a small screen. The backgrounds are all beautiful tropical locales, the pieces are all animals and flowers and fruits and it seems like everything is animated and moves around. Oh and the music is very serene and enjoyable, kind of a tribal feel to it.
Between levels you can purchase upgrades with all the resources you collect, and those upgrades bring the animals back to the island (it's decimated or something). There isn't really any point to this, but it's fun to go into the little habitats and look at the animals that have come back. And you can see photos of them in your journal.
The only thing I don't understand is the story. Occasionally you find a piece of an artifact which goes into your journal, and it gives you some cryptic message about it. Don't yet know what this means. Maybe it will be more clear later.
Lastly, multiplayer! I played competitively against my sister and there are a bunch of new power-up types that are just for grieving your opponent. You can throw power-ups at them to make them warp to a random part of the board, or throw sticky vines on their board to block their progress. So much fun!
Definitely worth buying. Best game I've played so far on my iPhone.
Level 10 answer..
Not much an answer but I remember playing it twice now, it's off the board. Use the vine to go somewhere off the map. I forget where tho.. All the way left or right or down...
I just remember taking forever but finding it where no clues were.
I think it's bottom wayyyy right.
Great game but repeating boards past 40 levels gets boring....
But awesome best match 3 out there.
Masterpiece
This game is a freaking masterpiece of a puzzler and is incredibly underrated. I don't post reviews very often unless I'm just compelled to, as is the case here. This was the first match-3 game I had ever played (yes, I only just played Bejeweled for the first time yesterday), so I'm very partial to this one when it comes to match-3's.
Play this game and you will be pulled into a tropical paradise, with dozens of different tiles all beautifully designed, gorgeous animations and handpainted, dazzling backgrounds, as well as an awesome addictive "island" soundtrack.
The game is very much worth the asking price of $2. I would even say it's probably worth $5. If you love match-3's, please just buy this right now, you won't regret it.
