Great Game!!! Must have for Casual Gamers, but...
Needs at least 2 more events. Actually 3 more events, and this'll be on the charts for a long time. I guess for 99 cents, the content is already enough, but I'm still hoping for updates, especially if the game's price will eventually go up. For the 3 more events, one each from throwing and jumping would be great. For the jumping, it obviously has to be the triple jump. A third event would be the relay. There are enough available characters anyway (12) to make the relay event work. And in adding these events, it is very very important that the mechanics/control scheme are more unique than what are currently being applied to the 5 events. Or at least add a little something new to the controls. For the relay I guess the "left and right tapping" for running and the "holding and releasing" for passing the baton would do. But I'm sure a new kind of control scheme can be introduced for the triple jump and another throwing event (shotput, discus, etc.). The PRO challenge is tough for casual gamers. It took me a while to get the technique for Long Jump, Pole Vault, and Javelin. Long Jump and Pole Vault isn't exactly hard at the beginning, but at PRO, you'll be surprised how high the scores of the challenger is. But it was okay after a few practices. Javelin was another story. It really took me a couple of days before beating Nanook. And even right now, I only beat him 8 times out of 10. Anyway one other suggestion would be to add instant replay for the moment the competitors cross the finish line during the hurdles and 100m dash. That would be cool to see especially if the race up to the finish line was tight. Maybe a black and white snapshot at the finish line would also be icing on the cake. One review mentioned something like a career mode, where maybe you'd tour around the world in various tournaments/locations earning points and stuff (but i don't like the idea of buying items that enhance your stats). That would be the bomb. But I doubt if the developers would consider that. Overall though, great job by the developers. Everything's amazing from the graphics, controls, response time, sound, and interface. Just needs more events with more control schemes.
TIPS: If you're having difficulty with Long Jump on Pro, keep in mind that the running part has less impact than you probably think. Of course you have to press the right buttons, but the biggest factor is the timing of the jump and the timing of the boost midair. You don't have to be too jumpy on your response time for the green buttons. Just make sure you press the right ones. If you're losing by a big margin, it most likely means you're pressing the orange buttons too late midair. Combine it with quick timing of the green buttons during the run and you'd go at least as far as 8.50. But mainly focusing on the jump will be enough to beat Kagunda. Pole Vault isn't that hard especially if you're just trying to beat Julia. But if you're having a hard time going above 6.0 (for high score purposes), I guess my only tip is to try releasing the orange buttons a split second earlier. This may sound weird, but sometimes it's better not to pay too much attention on how vertical the pole already is. Just release the buttons instinctively. Javelin is much trickier. In this event, it is very very important you have quick reflexes on the running part, as it appears to have a huge impact on your throw. And then hold on those orange buttons as soon as you cross the first line. Take note that you don't necessarily have to time the release before the end line. The key here is to build up strength while running fast. Waiting for the proper time to press the orange buttons in order to exactly release at the end line will not work for you, trust me. It won't go far.
My high scores after playing it for a week so far: 100m Dash - 9.21s, Long Jump - 9.04, Hurdles - 11.87s, Pole Vault - 6.08, Javelin - 93.25. By the way for those wondering what Minimode is, what it does is just make the characters smaller. THAT'S IT!!!
Worth it
Fun game, needs more events though!
