The Public Radio Player offers streaming audio from public radio
stations across the United States. The Player currently
offers approximately 500 station streams and 1,000 on-demand programs.
The app has been downloaded millions of times and has ranked as
one of the top free apps on iTunes since its debut in the fall of
2008.
Public Radio Exchange (PRX) is responsible for the development of the Public Radio Player. The project is supported in part by a grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and originated from a collaboration led by PRX in partnership with NPR, American Public Media and Public Radio International, with participation from Doc Searls and Project VRM at the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University. PRX continues to work with stations, producers, networks, and listeners for advisory input on the Public Radio Player.

THIS IS PUBLIC RADIO ONLY!!!
Hey - all you dopes who can not read: this app is for public radio stations ONLY.
If you are looking for your favorite rock or country station FIND ANOTHER APP and stop giving this one star.
For the rest of us, this is probably one of the best apps available and it just keeps getting better.
Almost unusably slow :(
This latest update added some nice new functionality, but unfortunately the app is now almost unusably slow. Everything from launching to finding stations to switching modes has become really really slow when compared with the previous version. I hope the authors don't intend to optimize the user experience only for 3GS users...
Not an "UPDATE", doesn't work as well
This so-called 'update' actually downloads a different program to your desktop, which uses the same icon, which seems like a poor decision in and of itself. The new program uses (presumably) the same data stream as before (KJZZ in Phoenix)but this app runs it SO poorly that after ten seconds or so an error message pops up referencing bandwidth issues. I'm using iPhone's WiFi with a pair of T1s in a commercial environment, so I can't see how bandwidth could be at issue.
All in all, this so-called 'update' runs far worse (for me) than the original app, so just 1 star till they fix these issues.
