The Public Radio Player offers streaming audio from public radio
stations across the United States. The Player currently
offers approximately 500 station streams and 1,000 on-demand programs.
The app has been downloaded millions of times and has ranked as
one of the top free apps on iTunes since its debut in the fall of
2008.
Public Radio Exchange (PRX) is responsible for the development of the Public Radio Player. The project is supported in part by a grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and originated from a collaboration led by PRX in partnership with NPR, American Public Media and Public Radio International, with participation from Doc Searls and Project VRM at the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University. PRX continues to work with stations, producers, networks, and listeners for advisory input on the Public Radio Player.

Great App, regardless of the low star rating..
I am shocked to see this app is rated so badly. It's one of the best app concepts out there, and it's incredible, and free! It has news, music, programs, from public radio stations all over the country. You want classical, you got it. News? Got it. Jazz? You got it, and my point. Dear developers, don't listen to all of the negative comments from these people who don't realize that it might take 5 seconds instead of negative 1 to start a stream from Texas when you are in Maine. This app is incredible and I use it daily, when driving, studying, working, cooking....it's part of the soundtrack to my life, and I thank you for it. I'd give it ten stars if I could.
Fail
I simply wanted to listen to my local NPR station. Even on my high-speed wifi connection, I was unable to listen to my local stream. If the connection issues that others and I are experiencing are fixed, then I'll give this app a second chance. Until then--DELETE!
Great app
I haven't had any of the problems mentioned in the bad rewiews. And I love how they have this American life unlike the official NPR app
