Description

Write down your thoughts, capture ideas and information, annotate documents and outline notes anywhere from university class to sofa at home.

To let you write anything you have in mind we included all the tools you might need: pens and highlighters of different colors, floating text boxes, shapes and of course an eraser.

At the same time Remarks is a fully featured PDF annotating application. You can highlight, underline, strikeout text, draw upon the documents – that means anything you can do with the document on paper and even more.

"What you see is what you get, and get it fast" is the best description of Remarks interface. It's clean, simple and lets you focus on making a note or annotating a document, not paying attention to everything else.

All your notes are PDF files that you can easily view, print and edit on your computer. Also, it means that you can share you notes with anyone and they are able to read and edit them as well.

With Remarks you can:

★ Make notes

Almost ALMOST ALMOST the BEST!!!!!

Review v1.3

I've purchased ALL of the top note taking / digital ink / digital paper apps. NoteShelf has been the only one that passes the bare minimums cut for me. That is until Remarks came around...BUT, I can't quite give it that 5th star and say that it has ECLIPSED the competition...but it's oh so freakin close!!!

One preface comment, in fairness, as an app Remarks is in its extreme infancy compared to the current lifespan of the competitors like NoteShelf. I think in time, Remarks will get there and completely surpass the others.

(1) NoteShelf does it all well enough and in the nicest UI and cleanest package currently available. BUT it lacks the ability to annotate PDFs (which is HUGE) to me, lacks DropBox syncing, and the whole app needs to be a bit sharper, sleeker ie. custom covers, high resolution in zoom mode, etc.

(2) The rest of the competition isn't even worth mentioning in detail because each may have one or two unique or exclusive features, but then they are painfully bad in a core area like "smoothness of handwriting response," which to me is a deal breaker (ie. NotesPlus, Upad, iAnnotate PDF, Notetaker HD, BiteMe Notes, etc) -- BiteMe was a joke. Some of those apps are just awful.

(3) REMARKS:

POSITIVE:
- the smoothness of the handwriting responsiveness as the result of Remarks' most recent update is second to none! I'm sure it will continue getting even better, but this is unbelievable how fluid and similar to writing with a pen on paper feels. Especially with the right stylus --- look up "adonit," you'll thank me.

- DropBox sync is fantastic, and now AUTOMATIC!!!

- overall, in my humble opinion, the app is so much slicker than any others. The shelf organization is sleeker and better than NoteShelf. Ability to put notebooks in folders. You can easily customize notebook covers by dropping a sharp image in as your page 1 which will then show up as your notebook thumbnail.

CRITIQUE / NEEDS IMPROVEMENT
- in the last version of the app, the zoom function had serious lag issues in the auto advancement as you were writing. Issues to the point that I wrote an elaborate message (of accolades and concerns) like this review to the developer on their site's "feature requests" and got a personalized message back from someone on their development team. And out came the update with the zoom advancement pretty much flawless. Still could use a few tweaks; ie. ability to scale the size of the zoom

- a lot of people's comments criticize the "limited choice of pen and highlighter colors" --- most don't realize when you click on the pen button, it just gives you your 3 most recent pens and 3 most recent highlighters. Once selected you can select from about 16 different colors and stroke widths which will again be saved as your 3 most recent. Could be improved by making a wider color selection quickly

- They NEED to give the ability to select, cut and paste!!! This will be a huge update

- The eraser: would be nice if you could see an outline of your eraser path --- like photoshop style

SINGLE ISSUE KEEPING THIS FROM BEING THE BEST:
- App is crashing!!!! Update v1.3 significantly improved the crashes. But I still get them when the app seems to be highly taxing the iPad's processor (iPad 3); ie. lots of fast writing followed by switching to eraser and back to pen very quickly, or lots of fast moving of files, switching quickly between multiple notebooks, etc. I simply CAN'T be in the middle of production / script meetings and have a whole page of notes lost because the app crashes. The one thing NoteShelf has, is that when it crashes (VERY rarely) it will NOT lose even your most recent pen stroke. Boot it back up, and everything is there. Until Remarks makes this improvement, I cannot make this my exclusive note taking app.

Whew!!! There it is. Can't believe I care this much about a note taking app to write a review like this (I've written maybe 3 reviews of anything online in my whole life), but it's amazing how fundamental note taking on the iPad has become for me.

To Remarks: I know you'll get it there with updates. Just the faster the better please!!! Till then, I begrudgingly continue to use NoteShelf.

Great update, but a few tweaks will...

This app could be one of the best notetaking apps. However, to do so, it requires more optional colors. Further, the zoom function is wonky.

Prior this update, I believed this was another weak notetaker..... I have them all.

My new favorite note taking app

I always prefer to handwrite notes in meetings or any other flows of consciousness, it simply feels more natural than working in apps like Evernote that keep you confined to the keyboard input. The real bonus with this app has been the storage options. I actually leverage the webDAV to sync my files to a Shared Document library on my own sharepoint server. Now I don't need to worry about inaccessibility to content that was sitting on other company's cloud servers. The new handwriting improvement in the lastest update is just icing on an already fantastic app. This is well worth the money spent several times over.
