The Dolch Word Lists are compilations of frequently used words as identified by Edward William Dolch, PhD. Dr. Dolch compiled the lists based on the frequency of word appearance in children's books. The 1st Grade list is comprised of words that are extremely common in 1st Grade literature and should be mastered by your child. All of the Dolch 1st Grade words are included in this application.
Many of the Dolch words can’t be “sounded out” using common sound-to-letter implicit phonics patterns and have to be learned by sight; hence the alternative term, “sight word." This application is designed to be used by very young children and is highly effective at providing a solid foundation for the immediate identification and pronunciation of these cornerstone words for early learners.

Excellent Tool
As an elementary teacher I must say that this simple application hits it right. It is straight forward and very effective for parents to work with children to learn these important words quickly. When parents make a game of it the kids get into it and literally yell out the words before the program voice reveals. Kids can also practice without a parent. The app goes through the 1st grade Dolch words list so the kids are learning the words they will encounter most often in 1st grade.
Where's the fun in it?/ why a buck???
Yes, there's a voice telling my child a word, but other than that, there's not much to it! Don't waste your dollar- I'd rather practice my son's sight words with a purchase of tangible flash cards- at least I could make a game of it and not feel like I just wasted my son's time as he's wondering what's the point of this game- please direct me to an app where there is an option where if the kid says the word correctly before the computer, then it can go towards a point system. They can work on improving their score until they get all the words correct- I'd pay for that kind of interaction!
So I think I'm hoping for something completely opposite than what was described, but main point being- not worth my buck.
Needs Options
Very handy. Works well with my 1st grader. Needs option to either control the delay before it speaks the word, or turn off the speaking. Hope to see an update.
