Customer Reviews
Not too bad :)
Well, I've read the reviews for this app and wasn't sure what to think. I could end up losing $2 on an app and used that instead for a better OCR app. Bottom line? It works fairly well, but...it isn't perfect.
I've tried this app out on my new iPhone4 and with it, it worked reasonable well but had its quirks.
The good:
1) fairly decent (but not perfect) at converting data to text or using it to access the phone or web
2) has a great picture-to-text converter
3) simple to use
4) seeing it work in real time thru the camera is VERY COOL! :)
The bad:
1) it isn't perfect, my first impressions say that its 80% accurate. Update: more like 70%, but I still like it
2) you have to hold the camera VERY still in order to achieve good results
3) the surface from which it reads data from has to be fairly flat
4) it doesn't seem to work at all in landscape mode! Update: it does, I just needed to be more deliberate with the iPhone
5) I WISH it had a zoom feature for the camera (2x,4x,8x,etc)
6) I WISH it had a camera stabilizer
Simply put, I wish it was a lot more accurate more often - its not perfect BUT...I still like the app and plan on using more often. I'm happy with it for now.. :)
Update:
1) needs to have an option for LED (iphone 4)light when needed
2) needs to have the option to take a picture within this app and then immediately after process it to text. so if I'm unsuccessful capturing data live, I can at least snap a picture and process it within this app. This feature works fairly well in this app
Sometimes works, sometimes not
Got nothing but garbage using the live interface. However got better results using image from camera roll. Will have to experiment further - seems really sensitive to lighting, etc.
"Like" if GigaOM brought you here!
So after the review on gigaom appeared I went ahead and bought the app, works fine on my 3GS, probably works perfect on iphone 4
I don't mean to be rude or something but those of you who purchased an OCR app for iTouch or a 3G must be doing something wrong :) Clearly the camera on those devices will not take OCR-quality images. And yes, this also applies to iPad 2.
