This update was mediocre in my opinion.
You get 2 "Chimera" levels for each of the 3 ships you buy (1.99 ea)
Chimera levels are short and consist of the same enemies you play against in the normal game with one new boss ship which is repeated and some new music.
The music is great and the Darius ship is pretty cool but that's about it.
I bought all three ships to get the bonus ship from RayStorm but it doesn't come with Chimera levels.
This update also brought up a glaring issue with the branching unlock system. All the chimera levels appear together which means unless you've already unlocked everything you'll have a ridiculously large level with tons of unlocks. It's laughable.
I remember begging for someone to port this to the iPhone on TouchArcade when I first saw it. That was Christmas eve of 2008. Rest assured I am a die hard fan, but even I don't see the value in these addons when you are paying MORE than the full game and getting a handful of levels
Yay for new content!
Just tested the new ship and sideways format. Both are very cool. The option ship requires you to know the terrain a bit because it fires piercing bullets that are slow and straight. Also the options destroy bullets on contact so you can create a shell around yourself to keep yourself safe. I'm trying to find an efficent way of holding the screen in sideways that makes it so my thumb isn't blocking half the screen though. All in all I give it a five because it still shows progress and means IG isn't forgotten.

I really like this game, its pretty addictive plus the branching gameplay adds replay value. The new update seems really cool but the content isn't worth the price IMO. On a sidenote, how do I configure the horizontal mode, i turn my iPod sideways and it doesn't work.
