Sparks for iPad 2 is here! The second to none Campfire chat experience on iOS has been reimagined at every possible angle to deliver the most feature complete, native iOS experience for Campfire on the iPad. This is a free upgrade for all existing Sparks users. We'd like to thank you all for your feedback, constructive criticism and lovely emails.
Sparks for iPad 2 features:
Simplified Authentication ---
* Sign in once and have all your rooms from all your sites delivered at the same time. No more logging in with the same credentials over and over again.
The Lobby and Dashboard ---
* Enhanced "Lobby" experience with the Dashboard. Not only will you see your rooms in order of activity but a new dashboard provides information about where the activity is taking place as well as a quick list of everyone who's chatting.
* Where are my campers? - Tap a name to see where they are or email them directly.
* Message distribution hour over hour for the current day
* A view of message volume per room for the current day
* Alerts for rooms that have messages waiting to be read.
Inside a Room---
* Streaming the room you're in in real time, even over 3G.
* Enhanced chat room experience including:
** 37Signals account avatars
** Streamlined message view (all the chat without the "enter/leave/kick/idle" message noise
** Preview images linked to the room
** Watch YouTube videos from inside the chat
** Code syntax highlighting for many popular programming languages
** Native iOS link handling - create events, contacts, click links and lookup addresses in chat
** Full support for all known sounds in Campfire
** Global in-room stats (just scroll past all the current messages and look under the message view).
** Upload files from your iPad Photo Library
** Download files from any room to your iPad (sync with iTunes)
** Transcript viewer. Select a date and review the action from past days.
** Quick reply to users. Yype an @ while in chat to reveal the campers in the room. Press return to auto complete the name you are looking for.
Peek in Room Mode ---
* Curious about what's happening in a room but don't want to reveal that you're checking in? Double Tap a room name in the Lobby to "peek" in without entering.
Full Transcript Search ---
* Enter your terms and search all your rooms in all your sites in one place.
Fullscreen Mode ---
* Only have one room or leave the app on to watch a room all day? Pinch to expand to fullscreen (pinch again to return to "normal" view.)
Optimized experience ---

Best UI for a Campfire Client
Definitely happy with the usability of this app. It's uncluttered and easy to use. A little slow if my campfire room gets a lot of traffic but otherwise great to use when I'm not with my machine at work.
Doesn't work
This app seemed to work well for the first couple minutes I used it. However after running it for more than a couple minutes it's become useless to me. Some posts don't show up in the app and now it pretty much always just shows "No Messages Today" and there doesn't seem to be a way to see what was posted in the room from before.
Another issue I've run into is if you bring up the post field, then decide you don't want to post something there is no way to dismiss the text input.
Beautiful, but not practical
The styling of this app is absolutely beautiful! Very easy to use and navigate multiple rooms.
Here is why I am unable to break away from the desktop app and use this exclusively:
- Does not push notifications if a room you are in is updated and you don't have sparks up on the screen. I don't want my iPad to be a campfire machine, I use it for many other things.
- Rooms do not always update if you are opening the app after having it idle for a while. I'm always having to compare this app to campfire running on my desktop to see what's missing. The refresh button in the lower-right corner doesn't seem to help.
