To the classic Sudoku, we added:
=> A smart point system, wherein your score is based on 1) the value of each number multiplied (at the time of its match) by a multiplier that decreases in time and 2) the value of each block, row, column multiplied (at the time of its completion) by the decreasing multiplier
=> Thanks to OpenFeint, you can now rank and compare Sudoku scores and achievements against friends and strangers
=> ▻Sudoku also counts the runs, that is, each uninterrupted sequence of games won, and adds them to the online leaderboards

In ▻Sudoku, you win a game when you solve a puzzle with 3 errors or less (we used this threshold to give a bit of slack for mis-tapping :) Also, you have a number of hints to help you play (more at the easy, less at the hard level). To fit any taste, you can choose between a lush tile look or a more classic board look :)

You gain access to medium level after you win the easy level 2 times consecutively, same for hard level (3 times)

Absolutely Stunning
This game is gorgeous. I've been through many of the free ones - probably over 20 - until I found the free version of this and it provided the best gameplay. I bought the app after trying it a bit and it's been the perfect app for my sudoku addiction.
This was awhile ago, and have played it on my original iPad and iPhone for well over a year now. I recently got the new iPad, and this game was still the best sudoku app. It had a bug that delayed the number played for a second or two randomly, but this was just fixed.
They don't advertise it, but apparently the graphics have been updated as well to support the Retina display on the iPad, and the app now looks absolutely stunning. The clarity and resolution is the best I have seen on any app since the update. I know it's just a sudoku game, but this app excels, and is my favorite to use on the iPad now.
On to the gameplay itself, it's very nice, offering a variety of difficulties to satisfy anyone. I find myself playing the medium, hard and expert mode, depending on how I'm feeling or how much time I have.
The gameplay offers great improvements and features over any other I've tried as well, which is why it's my favorite sudoku app. There are multiple board styles to choose from, and I find myself switching every now and then, and they're all gorgeous, though some are not my style.
The game offers notes, which automatically disappear if a number is played that would contradict it, and there is a nice feature that applies when you touch a number already played, it outlines all of those in green, which allows quick scoping of where the numbers are.
Scoring is nice in this game, and makes it perfectly scalable across difficulties. It's simply a score multiplier that decreases with time, and uses openfeint to track and compete, which is the one thing I don't like about it, as I'm a game center fan, and don't like having to keep track across multiple scoring programs. There is also a built-in error correction kind of system, which allows for up to 3 mispresses, as the numbers are slightly small on the iPhone display.
All-in-all, this app is just about as perfect as it can get. There is really nothing I can think of that needs to be added or changed, except maybe game center integration. It's a superb game for a great price, and you will not be disappointed in spending the money for it.
