Customer Reviews
Couldn't have driven without it
I used this in Ireland (with no active data plan). I downloaded the maps prior to my trip, and used this GPS app every time I drove. There are a few small quirks that made it a tad difficult to use, but regardless of ease of use, this is still a MUST for anyone who is going to drive in Ireland. I was able to comfortably navigate to some very "off the beaten path" places to truly get a full Ireland experience. If you are going to Ireland and are going to be driving at all, spend the $30 and keep your sanity and safety!!! (used on a ipad2 with no data plan)
Worked well for us
We took a one week trip to Ireland. I considered updating my TomTom with the uk/Ireland map for $50, but chose this app for $25. The app was our primary navigation method and it got us to our destination every time. It took me a little while to figure out the user interface which is a bit clumsy as compared to the TomTom. It also took me a while to figure out that I couldn't put my iPhone 4 into airplane mode and have the GPS function, so I discovered that I could turn off the cell network by going to general settings>network. There were a few glitches where it seemed that Sygic just stopped tracking and I ended up power cycling the phone to bring it back to life. There's also a mode where the tracking is held off until you do a "return." Aside from these issues, it's a nice app and superior to the TomTom in that it fits nicely in my pocket and its so much easier to pan and zoom the map. We used it numerous times while walking through cities so we didn't get lost. I also have GPS Drive and Telenav apps, this one is superior to both of those. I am considering buying the US version of Sygic as a backup for the TomTom - just to be safe to cover for some time if it were to fail at a critical time. Oh btw- I like the voice navigation for this app much more than the TomTom. The guidance is well designed and voice quality is excellent.
Ireland
My wife and just tour Ireland. We are rookie travelers and this was our first trip to Ireland . We were unsure of ourselves but nonetheless decided to rent a car and tour ourselves. We rented our car left Shannon airport and nervously left for the Cliffs of Mohrer. We had absolutely no problems! The dreaded round-a-bouts were no problems, the verbal directions were great. The maps were better. We drove to Kenmare,Clifden,Galway and Dublin. The verbal directions were 95 percent accurate every so often the system got confused but with a little patience it righted itself. This happened once in Dublin as we were circling quickly around some one way confusing streets. The other incident(which were few) happened in out of the way roads and again quickly righted itself. My wife and I are rookie travelers and would not hesitate to purchase and recommend this gps system. Even when I would second guess my wife and this system I was proved wrong and learned not to second guess my wife or this system!
We used an iPad 3.
