Squad Tactics at their best ...
Really do like this one. This one has some serious squad tactics and you had better consider your moves carefully as the situation is tight and shots can get rather limited. As in any good TBS game you always want to do more than the game constraints permit.
But this one is not frustrating to the point of quitting. I found my self in that 'good game atmosphere' where you say to your self ... One more turn, just one more.
If you like turn based squad tactics with super graphics, super UI where all info is just a tap away, then this one is for you.
Bottomline, well worth the price of admission.

Best tactical shooter rts on the ipad
This is a really nice turn based tactical shooter. There are some weird choices made in it though, like why do i have to be out of bullets to reload? Shouldn't i be able to do that whenever i want? Why cant i carry more than one weapon? Why do I miss 3 times in a row when it shows i have an 83% chance to hit?
It is fun to play despite the few quirks that seem weird. Plays a little like hunters hd but is superior in my opinion.
It has its moments
Although this is the best story based squad style TBS in the app store, that's not necessarily saying much. The game does a decent job of being a zombie horror survival game and uses a similar TBS system as found in classics like X-Com, but is hampered by myriad design issues and lack of polish.
One of the chief flaws is the level design. You would think the devs could have done something as simple as sketch out a semi-realistic area of the military base and designed levels based on that, instead they seem to have made up the levels without regard to any sense of immersion or realism. The game takes place in a continuous indoor trip where nearly every level has you exiting an elevator, fighting your way through a series of rooms and hallways, searching for colored key cards along the way, all to reach another elevator as far away as possible from where you entered to travel a floor or two and repeat the process. You have at least a seven story building where no two floors occupy the same area, with half a dozen "randomly" placed elevators that only cover two or three floors.
The inventory system is a mess. Each character can only have a single weapon and some grenades, they can't even carry so much as a knife for close combat. You can only transfer inventory within the turn based system, so something as seemingly trivial as simply evening up distribution of med kits, or seeing that the soldier with the shotgun gets the shotgun ammo, can take several turns even when no enemies are around.
Speaking of enemies, there are a grand total of six enemy types, and that's counting the three bosses you only fight once. Of the three normal enemy types, two are simply minor obstacles and present no real threat, and the third (spitters) provides the game's only "real challenge" via unavoidable, cheap deaths with their bile grenades. On top of the endless repetition of enemies with no tactics or AI to speak of, you also get to deal with enemies that spawn from sealed rooms and corridors because the script calls for more zombies when you reach a trigger on the map.
The game fails to thrive because it never lives up to the necessary standards of a good tactical TBS. You never have more than 3 units, there's never enough choice in weaponry, and most everything is in tight, cramped spaces so it's mainly about just shooting the zombies straight up before they close. You're never given any big choices because all three characters have to live through everything (or you get to reload), and all other major events are strictly scripted and out of your hands. As a result, the tactical choices you're allowed by the design and mechanics are interesting enough to make the game playable, but not good enough to ever excite.
There is a second in app purchase based campaign, but between its pricing and the quality of the premier campaign, I did not bother.

Conclusion: In spite of my criticisms, this is a decent enough game. The graphics aren't great, but they get the job done. The interface works mostly well for this type of game (it really needed a friendlier inventory management system), and the game does have its moments of fun as you mow down a room of zombies with a machine gun..It's not a very long game, but that's not a bad thing either since I'd seen all there was to see before I reached the "big finish".
