How do you choose from the seemingly countless number of metronome apps on the app store? Here’s a hint: go with the masses. Ever since its release, Tempo has been consistently in the top 100 of the Music category in over 30 countries. With over 100,000 copies sold, Tempo is simply the best-selling metronome app for the iPhone OS. It is used daily by performing artists for their gigs, by teachers in their lessons, by musicians in their practices; by golfers to time their swings. Even our competitors have taken to copying our interface.
Tempo gives you the features you really need without sacrificing usability. Its engine is written from the ground up for high accuracy and stability. Over that is wrapped an attractive, simple and yet comprehensive single-screen interface. It keeps going even in device lock mode, making it a useful aid for live drumming.
IMPORTANT: No speaker support for 1st gen iPod touch, only 2nd gen and above.

What's New In Version 1.4
- Fixed audio problems for older hardware running iOS 4
- Pendulum animation, turn it on and off in settings. Try both motion types to see the difference.
- New interface layout and design. Volume control reintroduced to main view; please note that this new control is independent from the device overall volume. Switch between Setlist and Config mode with the new embiggened mode button next to the mute switch. Drag tempo in the direction of the nudge buttons: up-down in portrait and left-right in landscape.
- High resolution RETINA support
- Upper tempo limit brought down to 400 BPM. Running the app at uber-high tempi may cause instability for older hardware running iOS 4. Please drop us an email if you need the BPM to go higher.
- Removed flip animations for Setlist and Settings views due to hit on performance.
- iOS 4 fast switching
- Fixed bug where sound set always defaults to Digital on startup
- Fixed bug where tables have more than one row checked
Customer Reviews
Watch out Dr. Beat, here comes tempo!
I am a percussion instructor in the midwest. I am enjoying your product and have turned my colleagues on to it. If you incorporate the following features, I will be able to sell more to others.
1. Add a 1/4 time signature. There are often times that I need a steady pulse, with or without subdivisions, when practicing etudes or songs with shifting time signatures. If the ability
to program shifting time signatures, according to the piece, existed, it would lessen the need for for the 1/4 meter addition, but would take time program, heavily impeding the
capability of "on the fly use."
2. Allow count one, remaining downbeats, and subdivisions to be monotone, or the ability to play subdivisions without an accent or down beat (as an option). When playing a piece
where the eighth note remains constant, for example 4/4 to 6/8 and back, a player can focus on the duple to triple with out the beat turning around. In addition, a player could in
theory exceed the 220 bpm by listening to the triplet subdivision, with out a down beat, as a straight quarter note or eighth note pulse, effectively creating an extremely fast
tempo.
This may not be the correct venue to submit these ideas, but I know they are great for additions for your product. You are offering a great product, please continue support and development. The fact is, your product is marketed at a better than appropriate price, and can stand alone without these suggestions. If you need clarity regarding my ideas, please do not hesitate me via email.
Thanks
Excellent for Golfers
Unfortunately, I have zero musical talent. However, I am a very good golfer with a 3.1 handicap. A metronome is a very good practice aid for both putting and full swings. This app does everything a golfer needs. It is very easy to use and with your headphones you can wear it while practicing and not disturb anyone else. In fact, all you folks would have to do is change the interface a little bit and sell the same basic app as "Golf Tempo."
First rate!
This app is easily worth several times its cost. If teaching or learning music is your desire, the flexibility and ease of use make it worth purchasing. This app allows teaching and learning by visual, auditory, and tactile sensory modes. In particular, tapping the tempo window teaches students to see their tempo after establishing a steady beat. Also, the Setlist is very useful when planning to present a new concept.
