Description
UPDATE: Now include the Top 100 Songs for 2009, and 1947.
Hear thousands of the greatest songs of all time.
What were the top songs for the year you graduated from high school?
Spin the wheel to find the year you want to hear. Click and listen. View the list to find the #1 song for that year.
These lists aren't the Billboard charts. Those charts only tell you what was popular at the time. And these lists aren't based solely on record sales (If they were, you would have to listen to a lot of Michael Bolton . . . not that there's anything wrong with that).
These are lists of songs that have stood the test of time to become the greatest songs for any given year, from 1950 to 2008. The songs in these lists were chosen and ranked based on their initial and lasting popularity, and on their impact on the overall scope of musical history. Enjoy these greatest songs. And, if you disagree (no one agrees on all of these), then go to our forum and let us know (forums.nutsie.com).

Legal?
I came across this app on a whim this morning and tried it out. Wow...great application. I LOVE it. Then I thought, "this is too good to be true" so I emailed the developer. They explained how and why they can make apps like this legal and now I think I love the app even more. Although you can choose the year you want to listen to, the songs within that year are shuffled (like a radio station). This is because the company is licensed to stream music this way. Here's the best part: the developer compensates artists every time they get a play. This means that for $1.99, you get (literally) 5000 songs for the price of 2 on the iTunes store...AND the artist gets a cut. I wish I could buy this app again on pure principle! Grats Nutsie on an amazing product that really shows what the iPhone can do (technically and diplomatically). Can't wait to see more.
So much music
Just getting into this one, but it's pretty much an amazing and almost endless stream of great songs. Really fun listening. I like the way the lists aren't purely based on sales...I found some good punk rock in the late 1970s lists, and you KNOW that stuff wasn't selling, but in terms of influence and longevity it should definitely be on the list.
This one is a huge value...so much music...fun to go by year, too...birth year...high school and college graduation years, etc.
Great Music App
First off, before I downloaded this App I was a bit skeptic because of some of the negative reviews. But a few minutes after I got it I was completely amazed at the amount of music contained in this one little 2 dollar app. Many of the complaints in the reviews revolve around not being able to play the full song of your choice. This complaint to me is silly. How could they possibly sell you an app for 2 dollars that contains over 5,000 songs? Almost all of which are available in iTunes for .99c a piece? There is no way the makers of the App could legally do this for 2 dollars, and there is no reason why Apple would sell an app for 2 dollars that is basically worth $5,000 on iTunes in thier app store. The way they get around this is by making the 100 songs from that year play at random like a radio station would. The people who are conplaining about the random song feature want far too much for far too low of a price.
With that said this is a great app for times when you need to pass the time. It's great to listen to a year that you know the music from really well and go "heeeey, I remember when..." as the songs come up.
My one major complaint about this app is that it needs a sleep timer or something of the sort to keep the app from draining the life out of your battery. If you fall leave this app playing or fall asleep listening to the tunes your battery WILL die. The songs just keep playing until you either exit the application or your battery dies. Some sort of setting or sleep timer of some sort to prevent this from happening would make this a near perfect music radio app.
