Description
Top Doc is a medical quiz app developed by Elsevier and Legacy Interactive and authored by Drs. James Studdiford and Amber Tully from Thomas Jefferson Medical College, who also authored the popular Images for the Wards text. The fill-in-the-blank style question-and-answer game is aimed at medical students, residents and junior faculty who want to improve their visual diagnosis skills and prepare for real cases, OSCEs, or board examinations. Players must make the correct diagnosis as quickly as possible by viewing clinical photographs depicting a physical sign or symptom. Players must navigate through multiple levels of difficulty and through all body regions to become the Top Doc. At the conclusion of each fast-paced game, players are given a final grade evaluation based on their performance, which they can automatically post to their Facebook account. A Review mode is also available for players who would like to study the content in a non-competitive flashcard-like format. With more than 600 questions at multiple difficulty levels (as well as both a Novice and Expert game mode), the app is sure to provide many hours of educational enjoyment.
Contents:
Scalp, Face, ENT, Eye, Oropharynx, Neck, Arm, Hand, Back, Chest, Abdomen, G*******a, Leg, Foot, Skin, Genetics, Systemic Disease
“Top Doc was built upon a foundation of providing challenging, real-world questions illustrated by high quality medical images,” said Amber Tully, M.D., Assistant Professor of Family Medicine, Jefferson Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, and the product’s co-author. “With this platform, users are able to experience and react to realistic patient encounters that require quick, concise clinical responses.”
“We want users to feel as though they are facing and dealing with relevant scenarios within a virtual medical clinic,” added James Studdiford, M.D., FACP, Associate Professor Department of Family and Community Medicine, Jefferson Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University, and the product’s lead author.
“What an effective and enjoyable way to test, refresh, and increase my knowledge!” said reviewer Navdeep Chehl, a fourth-year medical student at Jefferson Medical College. “The program provides clear, vivid images and a very user-friendly format. The review mode is a useful feature, as well.”

Nice!
Relatively pricey app but makes up for it with a great way to pass time and brush up on diseases.
Educational yet fun!!
Really good app - and I actually think it is great value for money. I have been brushing up on my visual diagnosis on the bus back from the hospital and I think it is fun that I can post my scores on Facebook. I want my friends to buy the app so I can challenge them!!
Response to mdms2
Dear mdms2:
Thank you for your review of our product. We appreciate the comments and will take them into consideration when we updated or create future versions of TOP DOC. We would also like to take this opportunity to respond to some of your comments:
- While the image size may be small in the Q/A frame, it can enlarged with a simple tap of the finger to fill 1/3 of the screen.
- The intent of the game was to present the student with a set of CLASSIC VISUAL DIAGNOSTIC QUANDARIES (most "commons" for 17 areas from head -to-toe) and challenge them with provocative (yet practical) questions. In no way is our intent to be complete, but we feel we do an excellent job of covering classic, "need to know" findings."
- There was no intent to categorize this game based on gender-specific questions, it is arranged anatomically.
- Note that there is a Review Mode (faster, no typing) which should allow you to fully appreciate the depth and extent of the Q/As as well as the additional text Pearls - there are 17 chapters with an average of 5 topics each, and each topic has 6 questions of increasing difficulty (Short Coat, Long Coat, etc.), for a total of over 500 questions ... PLUS there are over 50 bonus questions!
We will look into your idea of a "lite" version, so that others can sample the product before buying. Again, thank you for your thoughtful comments.
