Description

“When I’m writing, Ulysses leaves me alone. Others don’t.” – Flex on the forums

Ulysses is the **premier** text editor for creative writers. Used by bloggers, poets, students and published novelists all over the world, it offers an integrated environment to brainstorm, draft, revise and even submit text on a professional level.

Based around the concept of non-linear, semantic text editing, Ulysses provides a truly distraction-free and fully focused experience, without sacrificing any advanced features.

It’s got everything you expect from a modern text editor – and then some:

- Tabbed, single-window interface
- Semantic text editing
- True separation of presentation and content
- Console mode (aka “distraction-free writing environment”)
- Extensible export (PDF, DOC, RTF, TXT, HTML, ePub)
- Project-wide, term-centric search & replace
- Multiple document and project notes
- Excerpts
- Counters for characters, words & pages
- Configurable metadata (Status, Label, Dates)
- Integrated backup
- Filters, groups and document collections
- Coherent document previews
- Text trash
- Typewriter scrolling
- Bookmarks and style-jumpers
- Project templates
- English, German, French, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Italian, Swedish, Norwegian, Hungarian and Czech localizations

Customer Reviews

This is not simple it requires learning a whole new mark up language

Ulysses looks great and has some stunning features, but Ultimately it will force you to do things its way. it's not an intuitive program and you'll have to learn it from the help menus or its little videos. it necessitates marking up your writing with strange characters instead of applying bold underline strikethrough, those characters are more distracting than seeing something appear say in italics. currently there seems to be a problem with the main functionality of exporting to file formats like word on the OSX platform. There is also some strangeness with the way files are saved inside of projects and projects are saved. When 1st getting used to this I lost more than a few pages because saving the document does not automatically save the project. Inadvertently closing the window with the little red radio button in the upper left-hand corner may also cause the loss of information. Instead of doing your formatting while you work you must place tags or markers, little symbols in your text and then you must do all the formatting again before you print or export the piece. there is no preview for the export or printing either. No paragraph indentations appear until your work is exported; this can make searching or organizing your paragraphs difficult.

IPAD

I love this app and would be ever so grateful if an IPAD version would be available.

Great Writing Project App

This app is full of features that make writing long, complex documents more manageable. At the same time, it is simple to learn and intuitive to use. If you write for your job, you should really give this app a try.
