I can't live without it
I know this is going to sound like I love this application, but it's that good. There are just too many holes where the front and back of the green just isn't enough and that is where this application surpasses the others. I've tried vcaddy, greenfinder, golfflyover, teedroid, caddy.me and iyardage and they just can't compare. They are lacking, poorly made, or just too slow. The maps load up faster than the google map app. Loading time for me was under 2 seconds on edge. They've even programmed it to cache the images until you exit the application and I image that would work great for people who play at courses with no reception. Getting the distance to any target is as easy as touching the map. The cursor is placed above your finger so you can see exactly where you want to measure. The built in scorecard is convenient but could use a little work. It would be nice to have handicap information. Here in florida there are 50 courses within 30 miles of me. I was thinking about buying a skycaddie but I'm glad I waited and came across this application. I can honestly not ask for much more.
About the other review concerning the price. All of the golf applications for the iphone are so cheap compared to a round of golf and esspecially compared to skycaddie I really can't understand what he's complaining about. When he has bought all those applications to use, how can he not see that this by far stands above the rest.
Great for green info, for fairways not so much
I bought this app after reading the rave reviews by the last 2 people. I liked that the app used Google maps to provide satellite imagery of each hole and that it was interactive allowing me to find the distance to anywhere on the hole (or so I thought). After reading the reviews, I was under the impression that this app was like the new uPro golf GPS device which shows a golf satellite flyover of each hole from the tee box to the green providing yardage to & carry info for the fairway hazarads & distances to the front, center and back of the green. However, I thought this app would be superior to the uPro because ViewTi G's interactivity allows you to choose your target point and gives you the yardage. The problem is that the app only provides a satellite image of the green and the surrounding greenside hazards. If you're playing a short par 3 then it's a very useful tool because you can pick your target and determine the yardage to the point you chose. However, if you're on the tee on a par 4 or par 5 and want to know the distance to carry the water or need the distance to lay up in front of the fairway bunker then you might as well leave your phone in your pocket. Or if you're like me and hit your drive off the tee into some predicament and need the yardage from your lie back to some point you choose in the fairway then you're out of luck. Don't get me wrong, this is a terrific app for the 18 approach shots to the green and provides outstanding info for those shots. But if you're looking for something more comprehensive with fairway info then look elsewhere.
The up side for this product is the customer service. Before I purchased ViewTi G, I noticed that the developers had only mapped 1 golf course in my area. I decided that before I was going to spend $40 on an app I'd see what their customer service was like. That morning, I sent the developers an email asking for them to map more courses in my area and included a list including my home course & 9 other courses I play occasionally. Within 3 hours, I received an email back stating that they had mapped my home course. A few hours later, another email came stating that 3 more courses had been mapped. By 6:00 PM that day all of my requests had been mapped with the exception of 2 courses because of insufficient resources (I assume that's because the course were built within the last few years and there wasn't any satellite imagery on Google maps showing the course layout). That is what I deem to be outstanding customer service. So I purchased the app hoping for the best. Alas, what I received was somewhat of a letdown. However, there is a possible light at the end of the seemingly dark and endless tunnel. Today I sent another email to the developers with my suggestion to add fairway and tee box yardage info and received an email back within a couple of hours thanking me for my request and stating that they "have thought about many of these features and how to integrate them into a simple to use application." It was nice to see a quick response to my concerns. With excellent customer service like that, who knows, maybe down the road this will be the premier golf GPS app for the iPhone but right now they haven't quite reached that plateau. Keep your eye out for updates though and purchase this app when they add a more intergrated view that gives tee box and fairway info. As for me, I think I may try another app with fairway info (Range Finder looks promising for $5) and use it in conjunction with this app for green approach shots.
AMAZING APP!! Saved $$$!!!
I played with the app today in NJ and i am very impressed with the app! Range finder is very accurate and easy to use. And Green view is a MONSTER! I can pick my own target using their app and as a 7-handicapper this app has everything I was looking for. I can't pick my own target or see greens with other golf apps on itunes. And they charge you like $35 for 3 distances(front, center, and back). And their customer service is AMAZING! I have to say they have the best customer support in all applications. Their support is like 7-Eleven, 24/7. I requested 3 courses and got a reponse in 3hrs! They know how to make customers happy. I hope these guys do well because it is way better than those $400 rangefinders.
