Windbuoy 2.0 is here! Now with maps, more data points (for those buoys that support them). This application is much more than an RSS reader. View and search for buoys on the map, see recent reports and trends all with a refined user interface.

This is a must have application for sailors, wind surfers, fishermen, boaters, weather watchers and anyone else that likes to know what the wind is like out on their favorite body of water.
Windbuoy is a simple, customizable application that retrieves and displays wind speed, direction, gust, air and water temperature and wave height as reported by any one of hundreds of NOAA buoys. Customize the display to show the units that you desire: Speeds can be reported as m/s, knots or mph; temp as celcius or fahrenheit.
Add buoys to your favorites list for easy retrieval. You can search for buoys within a specified distance of your current location or US ZIP code. You can also find buoys by full or partial buoy ID. When searching by location on the map view, you can your current location to any other place on the map.
Windbuoy makes a great complementary app for the NDBC 'Dial-A-Buoy'!!
(Note that not all buoys report all data items. Windbuoy only displays the data that is reported by NOAA)

Maps! View and search for stations on a map of the area you are interested in. Revise your search by recentering the search (drag the location marker and tap search)
Historical Data - Turn your iPhone 90 degrees to see the most recent reports available and trends in data from the NOAA station.
More Data! All data points reported by the NOAA station are reported by the app.
All NOAA stations are available in the app -- not just those with RSS feeds.
More consistent UI experience -- stations can be scrolled right and left with the flick of a finger

This is a GREAT app, made even better with the new update.
Update: Can I say 9 stars? The recent update to this app takes it off the charts. Search for new bouys three ways and add them to favorite with a couple clicks. See all your favorite bouys locations on a google map now. With Ayetides, iNavx , and Windbouy I have an almost complete navigation toolset (just need to find a good weather app. Updated screen view is really nice too. This one's a keeper.
The following was my first evaluation of the app several months ago. I use it in SW Florida.
Slight learning curve, after that it's so easy to use and incorporates great features. Developer was quick to respond to my one question. The app does exactly what it says it will do. Adding new bouys is easy, I just went to NOAA's website, found the numbers to the ones I wanted, and easily added them to my list. Can't say enough good about this app. It is a great addition to iNavx for iPhone. The only things to make it better would be integration with inland coastal real time water heights and iNavx. Happy boating <:)-]-< !
App keeps getting better
Great app, love the updates! I had one problem, when I updated my phone the app would just shut down and wouldn't get past the main screen. I reported the problem and it was fixed. Sounds like most of the people that don't like it live on the west coast, not sure why it wouldn't work the same out there? It works great on all the great lakes as I travel on a ship! I wish we could still get water temp from a few light stations or breakwaters in the winter when the Wx Bouy aids have been pulled! Nice to know this info for lake effect snow, coastal air temp, fog, etc. Winter ice conditions would be nice to see as well on the great lakes. One review said they didn't like the bell or the logo, I think it's fine, makes it fun & my son likes the Bell bouy sound. Keep up the good work and I'll continue to pass this one on to all my fellow mariners and United States Sail & Power Squadron members ! Smooth sailing !
update has issue
I recently installed the new version and it cuts off when running on the Edge Network. I never had this problem with the older version. It works for on the 3G network, but many waterways don't have 3G. This needs to addressed as there is no way to use the app when on the Edge network.
