could have and SHOULD have been better...but it's NEVER too late EA!
First off, I have supported the efforts of EA so far on the ipod touch. I loved Tetris, Sudoku, and Scrabble. Spore is just OK, but not even close to as good as the other games I mentioned.
I have been anxiously awaiting Yahtzee, Monopoly, as well as Sim City, but at this point, I am not so sure any longer. Here are my issues:
#1 - EA is a wealthy company who has the ability and funding to do ANYTHING. In Yahtzee Adventures, we are 'Traveling the world' into different environments, but the only time we see these so-called themes are in Load screens only, during gameplay, we are rewarded with NOTHING.
In fact, for as long as it took for this game to come along, I have a HUGE problem with the VERY lazy avenue that was taken in my following statement.
- During Gameplay, there is a generic backdrop of what appears to be the top of the earth. When you switch from level to level, the ONLY diversity you get is that this bland picture changes colors, from orange to blue to green, etc.
I am a photoshop user and I can tell you that the process is about 3 seconds to put a colored filter on a photo.
THIS WAS AN EXTREMELY LAZY AND SELF CENTERED MOVE. I am absolutely ASHAMED of EA, that their developers would put so little thought into this. In fact, I am fuming mad and I can't contact anybody to hold them accountable for this.
#2 - Go on over to the ipod classic games page and you will see a handful of games. One of them is an older version of YAHTZEE. Watch the preview video and take a look at the dice.....see how good they look? They look like dice! In the ipod touch (more powerful processor), they look like cardboard boxes...I have NEVER seen dice with sharp corners.
Once again, more of that damn laziness!!!
I love Yahtzee, but there are things that could have been better here, but EA didn't care.
If I am traveling to the supposed Zen Garden, show me a Zen Garden for the backdrop, not a red-filtered generic photo that I will see a million times re-filtered, along with a gray haired twit.
You will also have ONE, count it ONE piece of music playing through the ENTIRE game. Wow, big effort, and guess what? They didn't have to lift a finger there either, it's the music from the ipod classic version.
Ea may argue with my points that "they aren't the same game''...well, Super Mario 2 had different music than Super Mario 3, not to mention more than 1 measly track.
There have been complaints about the dice part, and I will leave that out, as they are good points, but no need to re-harp on that.
To a point, I still have fun with this game, but I am a LONGTIME gamer, and I know a little too much for my own good...Look at Gameloft - They may charge you 'EA Money' for apps, but the amount of content you are getting will blow any EA ipod touch game out of the water.
EA has been around forever, and that's why this puzzles me. It's almost as if their attitude is "well, it's a $5.00 app, so let's treat it like a $5.00 app as if it was released for a console."
$5.00 isn't a lot of money, but when we are talking about relative cost (most ipod apps are 99c), it's 5 times the average, which in my book means it should have:
FIVE TIMES THE CONTENT
FIVE TIMES THE POLISH
FIVE TIMES THE AMOUNT OF DIFFERENT MUSIC TRACKS
FIVE TIMES THE AMOUNT OF BACKGROUND THEMES
FIVE TIMES THE QUALITY OF GRAPHICS
But come one, make the dice look better than they do in the ipod classic version!!!
Three stars...make it better, my rating goes up.
I expect to see some updates, and not just the usual 'Bug Fixes'...Let's make this game what it should have been.
Could be better
With the amazing graphics of Motion X poker, I was really hoping for the dice in Yahtzee to have some movement and excitement. Although the Yahtzee is a well put together game, they REALLY missed the mark with the static dice. Make the dice play like Motion X and you have a 5 star game.
Sorry I ever bought this piece of junk.
When you play you better not hit a wrong button. It just goes on and doesn't allow you to correct or wait for you to press continue. I have yet to play a whole game that hasn't been ruined by this. The buttons are so close together that hitting a wrong one is too easy. There is not setting to allow either a change in button pressed or a wait tell going on. It's junk and when I tried to contact EA support, at the web site listed, they don't even have a touch/iphone part to their site and want ridiculous information. Overall I am as unimpressed with this as with almost all EA products
