It is a tactile experience: a game of wood, stone and rope with the most beautiful graphics yet seen on the iPhone. The visuals complement the controls to provide interaction that feels natural and comfortable.
A major element of the game is the unique, dusty and soothing down-tempo soundtrack designed and composed by 'Ghost Monkey'. It features binaural processing that creates an enveloping soundscape when headphones are used.

Zen Boring
Okay, the graphics and controls are well done, but gameplay...? Wrapping a rope around a wooden sculpture gets boring very quickly. I got through about 5 levels and that's about all I could take. Other than the shape of the sculpture there is very little variety in this game. Sometimes I wonder who's writing the reviews, the developer? Friends of the developer? This is a 1 maybe 2 dollar game. Wish I could get my money back personally.
Too much hype
There is a lot to like - great graphics, neat idea, great collision on the rope and the way it interacts with the wooden models. The problem is the controls. For something that is supposed to be calm and meditative you do spend a lot of time wrestling with the tilting (move your rope) and simultaneous touching (to rotate) that it's not a calm experience. In fact sometimes it's frustrating. To make matters worse this difficulty level is exploited by the games level mechanics.
In real life wrapping a rope around a wooden object would be easy. So really this is a game all about mastering the virtual rope (which isn't easy). If you're down with that and like mastering unique / interactive controls then look no further.
A fantastic, groundbreaking game
A spiritual sequel to the PC game "Zen Bondage," which was released several years ago, Zen Bound offers quite simply the best gameplay currently available on the App Store. The goal is to wrap a rope around a wooden object; as the rope touches the surface, it paints the object. Once you meet certain thresholds for paint coverage, flowers bloom on the beautiful level selection screen (which is a cherry tree) and new levels become available. The game plays like interactive art. Every object has a unique paint scheme and background, and is rendered beautifully. The controls are spot-on, and use both finger and accelerometer movement to facilitate gameplay. The soundtrack is brilliant, perfectly paired with the gameplay. The soundtrack can be downloaded for free for purchasers of Zen Bound. With more levels coming, this is far and away the best $5 you can spend in the App Store.
