Ben Marc, the uncategorizable alias of London-based musician Neil Charles, blurs the lines between jazz, electronic music, classical, soul, folk, and other genres. An established bassist, Charles has performed or recorded with Jonny Greenwood, the Sun Ra Arkestra, Zara McFarlane, Mulatu Astatke, and more. His first release as Ben Marc, 2021's Breathe Suite, was composed as a response to the murder of George Floyd. Glass Effect, his 2022 full-length debut, blends acoustic instrumentation with beat-forward production, and features guest vocalists such as Joshua Idehen (Benin City) and MidnightRoba (Attica Blues).
