About Son de Madera

A quartet specializing in acoustic, traditional Mexican folk, Son de Madera are one of the key acts of the son jarocho movement (celebrating the rural music and dance of Veracruz, Mexico), The group’s self-titled debut appeared in 1998, and introduced their organic sound, which can veer from delicate and wistful to exuberant and rollicking. LAS ORCHESTRAS DEL DIA arrived in ’06, and SON DE MI TIERRA was released on Smithsonian/Folkways in ’09. On each disc Son de Madera further the story of traditional son jarocho music while infusing it with contemporary flavor.
