The by-product of Hatebreed vocalist Jamey Jasta’s longtime friendship with Crowbar leader Kirk Windstein, Kingdom of Sorrow is a labor of love for the two heavy music all-stars. Jasta, a teen hardcore fan in '90s New England, met Windstein at a show and shortly afterwards booked Crowbar and Napalm Death to play with Hatebreed, creating a long-lasting bond. It wasn’t until 2008, however, that the two musicians had found enough time away from their other commitments to release their uncompromising self-titled debut. Musically, Kingdom of Sorrow unites Jasta’s powerful hardcore vocals with Windstein’s sludge metal riffing to create a classically heavy sound.
