About Michael Munnik

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. When I was a kid, I remember shopping at the mall in Calgary, and my parents picked up Paul Simon's Graceland, and it felt like a special moment. I remember dancing crazily to the whistle solo on "You Can Call Me Al" when their friends came to visit. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Dave Matthews Band, Live At Red Rocks 8.15.95 Feist, Metals Snailhouse, The Silence Show I lose myself in the perfect proportion of The Silence Show. Consistent, deliberate, and compact. At the other end of the scale, I lose myself in the size of Live at Red Rocks - its energy. Feist is always good but never better than on Metals. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “On Hearing a Name Long Unspoken” I read Leonard Cohen's poem in second-year university. The music rushed to me, and I wrote my chord changes in the book margin. A couple years later, I got the nerve to seek his permission. It's incredibly special to collaborate with such an artist. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? When I released my first EP, I played the main stage at the Ottawa Folk Festival. Blues guitarist Madagascar Slim was in the same set, and I brazenly asked if he would join me on my tune "High Road". He jumped in and gave a wonderful solo. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I've enjoyed playing and writing on the ukulele. Releasing an all-ukulele album would be great.
