Connie Haines

About Connie Haines

Upbeat, fast-paced, and remarkably robust, Connie Haines' singing delivery was so sensational it elicited the comment from Tommy Dorsey, "where did you learn to swing like that and when can you join my band?" She would indeed eventually join the trombonist/bandleader's big band as the counterpoint to a young Frank Sinatra, after starting off as a teenager, when she landed a spot with the popular Harry James Orchestra, until money woes hobbled James. Her voice was a staple in the 1940s; she was regularly voted at or near the top of the popular magazine reader polls of the time. While her star would wane with the sunset of the big band era, she continued to perform into her 80s, practically right up until her death in 2008.
