About Frode Haltli

Norwegian accordionist, composer, and improviser Frode Haltli's music exists in a mercurial terrain somewhere between 21st century jazz, contemporary classical, and Nordic folk. Looking on Darkness, his 2002 ECM debut, won Norway's Spellemannprisen. Passing Images in 2007 offered original folk compositions. In 2012, Haltli was one of two soloists on Arne Nordheim: Complete Accordion Works with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra. Two years later, the live solo album Vagabonde Blu marked his debut on Hubro. Air, with the Trondheim Soloists and Arditti Quartet, appeared on ECM in 2016. Haltli has performed across the globe solo, with groups, and with major orchestras. 2018's Avant Folk on Hubro was an international breakthrough that hit streaming charts. Border Woods appeared in 2019, followed by the compilation Selected Solo Works, Vol. 1-3 in 2020. Avant Folk II appeared in 2021 to broad acclaim.
