About Nancy Lamott

As a child, Nancy LaMott sang with a band led by her father, but was frequently ill and subsequently diagnosed as having Crohn’s disease. At the age of 19 she moved to San Francisco, where she soon developed a following, but her illness made progress in her career difficult. It was much the same struggle in New York, despite making a name for herself in the world of sophisticated cabaret. Still, in 1989, composer-conductor David Friedman produced the acclaimed BEAUTIFUL BABY. LaMott also found a champion in the radio personality Jonathan Schwartz and began to enjoy some genuine popularity, thanks to exposure on his weekly radio show and the nation-wide cabaret circuit. In early 1995, LaMott was diagnosed with cancer but still continued to perform in the clubs, and was even recorded live at Tavern On The Green seven weeks before her death that year.
