About The Erkose Ensemble
A five-piece group of Turkish gypsy musicians based in Istanbul, the Erkose Ensemble comprises three brothers: Ali who plays the kaman (Turkish violin), Selahaddin who plays the ud (Middle Eastern lute) and clarinettist Barbaros Erkose. They are joined by their cousins, Gungor Hosses on darbuka drum and Serdar Ucal who plays the zither-like kanun. Erkose Ensemble have been playing together since they were children and members of the group are also involved in Istanbul’s pop, jazz and classical music scenes. On Tzigane - The Gypsy Music Of Turkey, as the title suggests, they play traditional gypsy music, with passion and wild energy, mixing the musics of Anatolia, Greece, Balkans and the Middle East.
